Sorry, I should have been more specific,

Dianamo - 10-1-2009 at 06:28 PM

are there any rain or wind reports for anyone in Baja? That is a huge cloud cover?

shari - 10-1-2009 at 08:26 PM

looks like we might get some rain...bets are on!

Don Alley - 10-1-2009 at 08:51 PM

Drizzle in Loreto this afternoon and evening. Forecast for rain tomorrow, Saturday. Maybe a couple of inches. And it's already wet from a good thunderstorm Tuesday night.

Bob H - 10-1-2009 at 10:36 PM

By the time this one gets to shore...... it's just a big rain storm. Hang in the Sheri......... Bob H

Crap...

Mexray - 10-1-2009 at 10:44 PM

...can't you guys get a break down there?

What's next, a big fat earthquake out in the Mar de Cortez, with a nice tsunami to 'backwash' the rio Mulege...or maybe a nice swarm of locusts to feed the birds...I sure hope there's no Lemmings down Baja Sur, way - that would just about top it off!

Be safe down there, grab the cat and head for high ground...has anyone thought about maybe laying out plans for an Ark...?

Bajagypsy - 10-2-2009 at 05:29 AM

Oh my that is going for our place! Shari, your correct, glad the windows all are boarded!

mulegemichael - 10-2-2009 at 06:09 AM

and we just spent two weeks mucking our place out....break out the squeegees, folks...here we go again

shari - 10-2-2009 at 07:08 AM

Ok OK...I'll take the tent down although it never rains here....hmmm....maybe this time. Bird dog just got here last night...doesnt look like they'll be fishing for the next few days...break out the cards.

Lauriboats - 10-2-2009 at 07:29 AM

I wonder if the tarps on the roof at the Mulege house are going to do any good.

shari - 10-2-2009 at 07:57 AM

it doesnt look like it's going to pack alot of wind so your tarps may hang in there and help...hard to tell though.

jls - 10-2-2009 at 08:58 AM

My palm trees will be happy but i'm not sure about my mattresses. Hope the town roads don't wash down to Ave. Juarez this time.

shari - 10-2-2009 at 09:15 AM

if you mean here in lovely Asuncion...the roads will definately wash down to B.Juarez bringing sand and dirt with it exposing the water pipes...again but we're used to that.

Last week Juan was telling me it was gonna rain on Oct.3 or 4th....I'm like how do you know? He says it always rains those days...sheesh...I hate it when he's ALWAYS right.

bajajazz - 10-2-2009 at 02:29 PM

. . . raining in La Paz, started up here in Lomas de Palmira at 3:25 PM . . . unusual to have our weather coming down on us from the north . . . usually comes out of the south . . .

DENNIS - 10-2-2009 at 02:42 PM

We've had menaceing looking clouds most of the day up here. It has to be due to OLAF. Rain is forecast for Sunday. That would be nice.

DENNIS - 10-2-2009 at 03:06 PM

Just went outside to wash the dog. Got her all wetted up and it started to rain. Finished washing her and the rain stopped.

Destiny - 10-2-2009 at 03:51 PM

I just spoke to a friend in Mulege and they said that some evacuations have started. The government expects it to rain for the next 36hrs. Right now, the rain is off and on.

Hope this helps. Keeping my fingers crossed!!

Bajagypsy - 10-2-2009 at 04:24 PM

goodness Shari, is it raining hard?

Mulege residents, my thoughts are with you all, you do not need this at the moment.

Just over an hour later and it is now dropping rain drops here in Oceanside ... Now, is it an arm of the Baja Sur system or one coming from the north? It is quite warm today here insane diego county!

shari - 10-2-2009 at 04:39 PM

we only got a few minutes of spitting...enough to turn my wipers on when I went for a beer run with birdog...we've been eating lobster burritos under the palapa and only a few drops of rain to keep things cool so far but it's pretty dark...people are boarding up windows again and all the boats have been pulled out...we have the vehicles gassed up, beer stocked up and are ready for water.

mulegemichael - 10-2-2009 at 05:21 PM

shari...my vehicles are also gassed up, and we have a full cerveza locker, but I AM NOT ready for water...understand, sister?...my battery is low, so is roz's...got it on the charger tho, and i bet we'll be there by thursday...whatta ya wanna bet?

weather

wessongroup - 10-2-2009 at 06:06 PM

This morning it was clear and sunny with a fog bank of shore approx 3 miles.

Clouds where to the West Southwest and we have high cloud coverage by 10-11 am

With that came "spitting" on and off .... at this time, it is flat calm.

Surf was very nice today, around 6-8 guys out from around 6 a.m. till around 2-3 pm

Would say 5'-7' and water was warm enough for most to not be wearing wet suits.

Really nice here in , La Mision. The drive across the border and through T.J. took 13 minutes to the toll booth.. the construction detoure to Plays Tijuana is gone. And you can directly on "new thick contrete". Not marked all that clear when we came though but if we can do it anyone can...

Can only say it is really nice to be back down in Baja.. so far, no one has raped my wife, stole my car, killed my dogs, shot at me, and I feel fine. No un-usall splotches on by skin, no light headedness, and for dinner we just had menedo and steakes with tortilla's cooked over a wood fire (oh, my 3,4-benzpyrene)...

Just great, looking forward to tomorrow, it does not get any better than this..... even if I do drink a Corona:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Life is good today

Looks like I need to set the date

It started to sprinkle here around mission trails,San Diego so i took my dog for short

2 mile walk , the smell of freshly wet costal sage is so soothing for the soul~~

Bob and Susan - 10-3-2009 at 05:06 AM

rained pretty hard last night
here on the bay
lots of water

no rain in the last couple of hours

looks like the storm is heading right thru the mulege valley

sure cooled down
72 degrees outside right now

wind from the southeast abour 13 mph

olof.jpg - 45kB

Cypress - 10-3-2009 at 05:24 AM

Good grief! Is Mulege a storm magnet? They haven't finished cleaning up from the last one. Good luck to everybody down there.

mulegemichael - 10-3-2009 at 05:44 AM

we understand the gov't has now started mandatory evacuations in mulege...our house is being emptied and moved to high ground...we JUST got it back to a liveable state from the last one....oh well, what would we do with all that extra time?

shari - 10-3-2009 at 06:55 AM

it rained here a teeny bit last night...just enough to wet the ground really and it's currently 76 degrees....but oh oh...just started raining again and looks like this will be a downpour...maybe I'll get to use the new floor squeegie after all....good luck amigos.

weather

wessongroup - 10-3-2009 at 06:57 AM

Hang in there guys.... hope you all don't even get wet....

It's clear along the coast here, with a fog bank off shore to the west.. Some high clouds past the fog and higher up.

Most different than yesterday evening and all afternoon

Yeah, I know... I will try and figure out how to reset the date and time...

Another super day, it would appear..... Off to the market, to buy a fat hog and a six pack.... just had a breakfast of chorizo, potatoes, and egg's... with flour .... Say what ever you want... if it weren't for the native peoples of the North and South continents we would still be eating mutton and salted fish... brings back memories of the The Pequod.

Heading out to catch one.... 5'-7' with nice shape, at this time...

looks like the storm has moved over mid baja quicker than we thought. we are now socked in but the rain is how I like it...straight down and not driving in thorugh the windows and doors...only a light south breeze and about a 10' south swell.

Paula - 10-3-2009 at 07:17 AM

It's rained pretty much non-stop in Loreto since 3 a.m. The sky is still dark and heavy, there has been no wind, thunder, or lightning.

I'm hoping it's less in Mulege and Santa Rosalia, but it looks widespread on Bob's map:(

shari - 10-3-2009 at 07:27 AM

too bad Russ isnt around for Chivato reports...looking forward to hearing more weather reports this morning

vandenberg - 10-3-2009 at 07:32 AM

Major part is yet to come.
Doesn't look like it will miss the Mulege/Santa Rosalia and Loreto region. Hope it moves quick, but as of now, only moving at 3mph.

Just in from Mulege

Mulegena - 10-3-2009 at 08:52 AM

This is what I heard this morning-- good news:

Drizzle in Mulege, electrics scanty.
Good News: downgrade to tropical depression with 4-6 inches of rain only; there are no evacuations going on.

Constitucion under water

aldosalato - 10-3-2009 at 10:32 AM

Area of Ciudad Constitucion and Insurgentes has received torrential rain for last 24 hours and the area is inundated with several cars and trucks stuck in the water on main Boulevard.
Not much wind so not a lot of destruction are reported. I have no news on traffic on the Peninsular highway but I guess it has been closed due to flooding arroyos.

Bajahowodd - 10-3-2009 at 11:34 AM

More heavy rain in the Constitucion area has to be devastating for the agri-business in the area.

HaciendaCerritos - 10-3-2009 at 01:09 PM

It's raining cats and dogs here at Los Cerritos

HaciendaCerritos - 10-3-2009 at 03:27 PM

Wow - first time I've ever seen a tropical storm where the eye stays in one place and all the rains go in another. I kept looking at the satellite and it looked like it was in the SOC, but looking around here, you sure wouldn't guess it.

The ocean is pounding the rocks outside, the wind is gusty, it's overcast and raining right now. I wonder where this thing is heading? Looks like even the National Hurricane service doesn't even know.

The cooler temps feel wonderful!

Bob and Susan - 10-3-2009 at 03:28 PM

clear and sunny here on the bay in mulege

Mexitron - 10-3-2009 at 03:33 PM

Just started raining here in Fort Worth from the moisture plume from Olaf....nice to be connected to Baja way out here, even if its some raindrops!

how's about some fotos?

ViajeraGal - 10-3-2009 at 04:17 PM

Maybe it's sunny, but we just got a report couple hrs ago from one of our returning residents, via our "BPE" here in Los Barriles area that there is a landslide in the mountains south of Loreto, and expected that 18-wheelers won't be able to turn around, and probably creating some real problems for awhile.........that's all I know.

HaciendaCerritos - 10-3-2009 at 04:22 PM

okay - sure thing. The wind is not bad, just a little gusty. Sun came out for a few minutes.

Anyone knows about this slide and a more specific location ?? Could be anywhere from Nopolo to the start of the flats 50 miles south.

bajalorena - 10-3-2009 at 05:39 PM

She reported "She barely made it to Constitucion after witnessing a section of the mountainous road between Loreto and Constitucion cave in."

vandenberg - 10-3-2009 at 06:16 PM

No matter what, this has been some strange moving storm.
Jimena got some surprises and this one is even worse.

Hey, it didn't start with a "J", I figured you'd be OK.

Mulegena - 10-3-2009 at 11:11 PM

'Member TS Odile last year?

I had just gotten my stove and refrigerator cleaned up and back in the clean house after TS Julio when we had to drag 'em back out and to high ground-- and luckily Mulege was spared by Odile which went south and fast across the peninsula.

mulegemichael - 10-4-2009 at 05:43 AM

wasnt that norbert, lisa?

Bajagypsy - 10-4-2009 at 06:59 AM

Shari, if you have a moment (and I know you don't) can you check to see if our roof leaked? Just curious!

Hope all is well with all Baja friends.

Not Enough to Measure

DianaT - 10-4-2009 at 07:39 AM

Friends asked us to measure how much rain Bahia Asuncion received from Olaf----so we did.

After the rain yesterday morning, there was not enough to cover the bottom of the bucket----then in the afternoon, this arrived

We thought, OK, now it will rain---felt like it was going to pour. Only a couple of drops were squeezed out of it.

All seemed to land way south of here---

Could be, Mikey. Dunno wha' happened to Hurricanes K L M last year-- east coast probably poor guys.
Just remember having lunch in Scotty's after Odile and nobody knew for sure how to pronounce it; we were just happy he/she gave Mulege a miss.

Have read that La Paz got some rain from Olaf. Any reports here?

Bajagypsy - 10-4-2009 at 08:14 AM

Thanx for the report Diane, wasn't sure if there was tons of rain or no rain. Thank you for the picture of my house as well, I miss it ;D

comitan - 10-4-2009 at 08:31 AM

La Paz got a lot of rain, very little wind and no lightening so didn't lose power, I sure don't know how that storm found its way back here, like others have said the satellite showed it gone but it just kept raining even got some in the middle of the night.

HaciendaCerritos - 10-4-2009 at 08:34 AM

Kinda weird - but very overcast here at Los Cerritos Beach and sprinkling right now - had a minor downpour not long ago. Nice cool breeze going on.

toneart - 10-4-2009 at 10:05 AM

Hmmmm...no reports from Mulege since storm passed over. How much rain? Did the river behave?

Bob and Susan - 10-4-2009 at 10:58 AM

no real rain

some drizzel

that's it

it was only high clouds all day
we must have been in that "eye"
