thanks for drowning your GPS! some times getting lost is its own reward.

It was so neat watching all the local kids out there yesterday and today...mostly youngsters learing. That was the most kids I'd ever seen in the water at one time. Here are some photos I snapped as well.

Thanks---glad some of you enjoyed these---I took a lot.. I am burning a cd for the group---not sure they will enjoy the many wipeout pix I took as much as I do---ones like the flying surfer.

And yes, one cannot help but smile a lot just watching them---tis a great place for kids.

Jan, that is one of my dogs, Maggie Mae---the little one who is finally recovered from surgery. It is great to see her back playing in the water----it was a long 4 months of recovery.

I notice that there isn't a single female surfer in all of these images.

I'm wondering if girls are not encouraged to participate in sports in Mexico's culture as much as boys (or not at all).

Can you comment on that?

I don't think there were any girls out there that day, but I do know a few around here who do surf---don't think they compete, however. And all the girls and women in the village swim in their clothes. If there is a female in a bathing suit, they are visitors.

Don't think there is a competitive female baseball team either.

I know that the Mountain Bike team encourages girls to join and compete, but at the competitions, there are always a lot more male than female participants.

There were a few women and a few girls participating in the fishing tournament this year.

Interesting thought----I remember in the US when girls were not encouraged to participate in sports at all---gees, I even remember when girl's basketball was really different. Forwards and guards played on opposite sides of the court and were not allowed to cross the center line.

Food for thought.

this year, asuncion does have a womens softball team and they play against other women's teams around the area...things are changing ever so slowly in these parts.
