Plane Stolen from Asuncion

Don't know the exact details but an airplane was stolen from Bahia Asuncion. From what I have heard, narcos were involved. The plane was only down for a short time and thus someone knew the plane was coming....hmmmm.....I'll try get more details or maybe Shari will....

Asuncion???????????????????? There can't be THAT many people who can fly that live in these little towns??????? What the heck?????? The odds of losing a plane there is astronomical!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wonder if the gov't has thought of registerying all pilots who reside in towns with airports. Then when a plane is stolen, start knocking on the doors of the residence and see whose missing?????

Just got this report....it was the plane from the Seguro Social...the hospital plane...a cessna...the plane was taken only a few minutes after they came to town so it was an inside job...they knew the plane was coming and were ready to steal it. Lots of people in the hospital system know when and where the planes are going so probably got a hot tip. It definately wasnt somebody from town.

Wow! Your plan to round up all the local pilots and interogate them after every plane theft sounds like something the UN human rights commission may object to :lol::lol: I doubt the locals are piloting away the planes, but locals may be aiding narco thiefs by providing local intel.

I am not surprised at plane thefts. You have a situation where lawless narcos are looking for planes, and planes are parked at remote/unguarded airstrips. Given the frequency of plane thefts reported here on Nomads, I think the odds of plane theft are quite high. I would bet that in Baja the incidence of plane theft is higher than car theft, on a per vehicle basis.

While I agree with much of what you say, I don't find it unusual for Nomads to report plane thefts here. This board is for Baja information. Plane thefts are pretty sensational. A plane theft from Asuncion is especially sensational and newsworthy.

Shari - as soon as you can get the X number and if possible the model of Cessna we can get the word out.
they seem to want 200 series Cessnas mainly although they'll take 182s too.

i am so sorry to hear of this. your strip even though close to town is too remote without federales currently based there for security for recreational pilots to feel comfortable coming in. that's not a good thing.
this can only hurt tourism, even if to a slight degree.

things like the upcoming dental clinic at Abreojos will be affected if volunteers do not feel comfortable flying the docs in.

I guess airports are going to have to be more secure. Was anyone hurt? Guns involved? It is terrible when you don't know who to trust.

i know it's been beaten into the dust, but there should be a way to disable a plane. maybe the manufacturer should be liable for selling a lame product that is not very safe? you know if a kid could climb in a nd manage to start the thing and get it rolling across the country side until it hits something....

what do i know?

agree. mfg should sell a secure airplane, like modern automobile ignition/security that are pretty theft-resistant and reliable.

also, pilots should insist on airstrip operators providing security (and pilots should not use strip if operator can't provide security). pilots pay landing fees, perhaps they should require guarenteed security from operator.

furthermore, shouldn't these planes have "lojack" system?

I would have thought that a stranger in town would have been noticed. whether we like to admit itor not, there are more than a few "consumers" in town.

Consumers, yes that there are.

You are correct that a few strangers in town would have been noticed, probably. However, they could easily get to the airstrip without ever entering town.

While it may never happen, it would be interesting to find out all rhe final details-----and who was involved. Probably will not happen, however.

it was a T206H operated as an air ambulance by Seguridad Social per BBP.

so now someone will not get a ride out from someplace who needs med help thx to the narcos.....and it's no way the fault of the mfgr Cessna.
if they want it they get it. they knew the plane was going in to BA and simply took it. bunch of tur#ds :fire:

Hey Mike, We have been hearing about a lot of stolen planes it seems. How many are ever recovered? I can not remember reading any good news after the first report of a theft. :(
