why is there a fire every other week now a days? pyros on the loose or what?jeans - 10-4-2009 at 03:13 PM
I called him at 9:00am this morning as soon as I read it in the paper...I left a message and have not heard back. I came to the board just now to see
if he'd checked in yet.
As his #1 WIW, I am, of course worried. The article said there were no
injuries and three homes lost.Paulina - 10-4-2009 at 03:31 PM

Brittany spent all last night moving and evacuating belongings of her husband, Joey's Mom & Dad and relatives from three separate homes in
Wrightwood...I came through there at 6pm last night and it was like a war-zone. People going everywhere at 100 mph ... Britt & Joey live in
Hesperia, but the in-laws all live in Wrightwood.
Neal is one of the toughest men around along with being one of the smartest. All be careful! Tim

Three homes were lost in Swarthout Canyon, which if I remember correctly, is the back road up to Wrightwood. Is he near there?
The East Side of Wrightwood is under mandatory evacuation. The rest of town is under voluntary evacuation.jeans - 10-4-2009 at 07:29 PM

He is on South Lytle Creek Rd at Valley Vista towards Scotland. Which seems to be at the far south end of the mandatory evacuation. From the map I
saw it looks like the fire is moving away from them up canyon toward WrightwoodAlan - 10-5-2009 at 06:00 AM

The fire started in Lytle Creek and burned NW from there. Evacuation orders have been lifted in Lytle Creek and the only structures lost at this
point were in Swarthout Cyn so I would assume he faired okay.
All of Wrightwood is currently under mandatory evacuation but the winds have laid down and the RH has increased so the guys have made great progress
over night. Evacuation orders will be re-evaluated today.Alan - 10-5-2009 at 10:33 PM
Waiting for a predicted wind shift (to offshore) tonight. If the lines hold they may lift the evac orders for Wrightwood tomorrow.jeans - 10-6-2009 at 03:35 PM
It's entirely possible that they are traveling out of the country or back in the boonies and have no idea all this fuss is going on.David K - 10-7-2009 at 04:12 PM
jeans (and others), Neal may have already left for Arizona where he was doing some research on an old wagon road or some such event... He related to
me when he replied about not being able to attend the Off Road Expo this coming Sunday... I hope their home is fine!!

Neal was out in the desert and aware of the fire as it was happening. It was a mile from his home and moving away from there.
He is now in AZ or New Mexico

Thanks John, glad to know someone's been in communications with him. I remember now the exchange that DK had with him regarding his work on the old
wagon trails, no doubt because he's old enough to remember when they were built.Neal Johns - 10-9-2009 at 11:25 PM
Thanks all for worrying about me. I was in Goffs, CA when it started less than a mile from my house. I checked with neighbors and dog sitter about the
fire. 40 mph winds blew it away from Lytle Creek toward Wrightwood so we did not rush home.
The eves had just been boxed in to help fireproof the house the day I left town and delivery of a water pump had just occurred. All ready for a fire
party and no fire came! Scary!
