Witches Brew

wessongroup - 10-6-2009 at 04:16 PM

After talking to my wife this morning about my sharing of recipes, my wife gave the correct recipe for "witches brew", the one I gave yesterday as "witches brew" was of course incorrect, well what do you expect... I'm tonto what ever that means...

It's really a great soup with body and lot's of flavor on a cool day... she usally serves with fresh French Bread..

Potatoes 12 cut into “big chunks” to small will get mushy…
Large can whole tomatoes, chop, slice or squeeze with your hands
Garlic, (taste)
Whole onion chopped loosely
Vegetable bullion cube, at least 2-3
Seeded, cooked whole green chilies shredded (seeds, or no seeds, longer you cook the hotter the flavor
Seasons
Skim the top at the end
When the potatoes are done, it's time to put into a bowl and sprinkle shreaded cheese and/or cheese's on top of the serving

Then serve the “filthy beast” as my wife just added :lol:

Another good basic recipe. My sprinkled cheese would be Parmessan. The real stuff.

So do you use a circle hook a J hook to catch the soup, and are you trolling or pitching live bait. Just curious cause it doesn't sound too bad.

No, just like food... and have always enjoyed a spicier type of food, after my wife’s family introduced me to it.

Was brought up on a diet that was "meat and potatoes" southern style. Salt and pepper and maybe catsup.

Just a different style of cooking, not a pronouncement on it's quality, just that I had never really eaten Mexican food, and some of the various dishes which are prepared both commercially and within the entire culture.

Just hoped to share a taste treat, that can last for many years more, at least it has for me

Chiles Rellenos
(Stuffed Chiles)

6 Green Chiles, roased and peeled
1# grated Monterey Jack or Queso Fresco
Cooked meat, shredded
3 eggs separated
1/2 cup flour
sauce (optional)

Roast, peel and devein chiles. Keep stem intact. Stuff each chile with some meat and cheese. Roll in flour and dip in eggs which have been beated separately with 2 Tbsp flour folded in to beaten eggs. Heat 3 Tbsp oil in frying pan and gently fry chiles, on each side until browned.
Drain and place on serving platter. Heat sauce and pour over chiles if desired- Serve.

Sauce: Saute 1 onion chopped with 1 clove garlic, 2 large tomatoes and some chopped parsley. Season and cook down until thick. Pour over Chiles.

Transcriber's note- I'm a little confused about the separated egg/flour thing. Put 2T flour in whites and 2T flour in with the yolks? and then dip in yolks first then whites? or vice versa? or flour-yolk-flour-whites (which would give a thicker coating)?

all sounds tasty...but how is this related to fishing? I must have missed that part. :?:

That was my point, I was joking about the hooks but I think I may have slightly offended someone----Sorry!

I Apologize in Advance

I took the liberty of editing your good wife's recipe.

Please let me know if she doesn't like this version, I will happily make changes or delete my input completely.

Baja Bruja Soup

This is a full-flavoured, vegan soup with good body – very satisfying on a cold day.

12 potatoes cut into big chunks (too small will get mushy)
Large can whole tomatoes - chop, slice or squeeze with your hands
Garlic to taste
Whole onion, chopped large
Vegetable bouillon cube, at least 2-3
Fresh green chilies, chopped fine (seeds or no seeds, the longer it cooks, the hotter the flavor)

Taste and adjust seasoning

Skim the surface of the soup when the potatoes are cooked through

Then serve up the “filthy beast

Kiss the cow

The wife said: fresh, tastes differnet than cooked...

Everyone to their own taste said Mrs. O'Leary as she kissed the cow...

Please, do anything you want to make it the way you want it... that is what cooking is all about... no recipe staying the same unless it’s the same cook….. sometimes, maybe…. ):):)

Have fun with food.. I do.. not upset with anything said.. I was thrown off by the hooks.. so I just said "fishing from a chair" as the "hooks" totally lost me on the soup.. thought you had some kind of "fishing thing" going on....:lol::lol::

Relax and have a beer.... I'm going too... and let's not start another "Beer drinking" thread

Love the Recipe

Gypsy Jan - 10-9-2009 at 02:27 PM

But, I did not want to offend you or your good wife, so I posted my edited version to respectfully offer you the opportunity to tell me if I am off-base--or not.

Good food is always about love.

I do not go fishing - but I love sushi.

As someone who has inadvertently posted under the wrong topic, I can understand. Maybe the moderator should have noticed and moved this thread.

BajaNuts - 10-9-2009 at 04:54 PM

maybe they were FISHING for compliments or HUNTING for the right spices....:light:

I wondered about the category also, but missed the hooks connection...;D
