New organization in San Felipe could use help!

Donjulio - 10-6-2009 at 09:54 PM

Actually the organization has been in the works for awhile but it was just one Mexican mom doing all the work to try and promote it. She didn't have any US exposure so I am getting that for her now.

The organization is Paso A Pasito. It was started to help the families of handicapped children in San Felipe. Please visit the website at http://www.pasoapasito.org and if you are on Facebook join our group. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=182454581048

On the website is a list of things that would sure be welcome. Please help if you can.

Thanks,
Kyle

I frequent San Felipe, sounds like a good place
to drop some items off,
Don Julio, does Mex Customs at Mexicalli
Calexico care if one has items to
donate to groups such as the one
you listed? With a stepped Mex Customs
program in force, I've heard in the past
some gringos bringing things to donate
have had to explain themselves when
bags of clothes ,etc. are questioned
by Mex Customs

Thank God for groups like this and Thank you for letting me know about them.
Sincerely
The Mexicorn

So ...I also frequent San Felipe at leaast several times a year. What do we tell them at the border? I have always brought several bags of kids clothes from my school lost and found and have slipped them through. But with the "new border rules" maybe not this next time. Anyone tried to take Charity things in lately? Nancy

People havent really had problems bringing in clothes and things like that. I doubt they would question wheelchairs or braces. Bringing in larger stuff is something we need to figure out.

I will find out and post the answer here as soon as I know.

If you put things in old duffle bags or suitcases and donate those too...dont tell them they are for donation....you just wear lots of clothes while on holiday.

Yes, we crossed again last week with items. We have a number of duffle bags we use over and over. We divide items up, pack them in the duffles with some of our stuff on top of each one---underwear works well.

We are almost always pulled over even if we get the green light, but we found no difference this time with the new customs people---same questions, same quick look, and same have a nice day.

Looks like a young man who was shot about 6 months ago and now is in a wheelchair has an 60/40% chance of walking if he gets therapy. So he is going to donate half of his building on the main road coming into San Felipe for a therapy center in exchange for therapy.

About a mile before the arches on the left is a Tecate sign on a white building. There is a store there. The left half of the building will be the new center.

It will be cleaned up and painted this weekend and ready to go on Monday. So there will actually be a permanent physical location for people to drop off stuff too. That way you also get to meet the ones you are helping.

For those of you that might be here this coming Monday Oct. 12, there will be an opening celebration at the new therapy center. It will be at 6PM and the moms are cooking.

The center is on the way into San Felipe approx. 1 mile before the arches. It is on the left side of hwy 5 right next to (adjoining) the El Camino Market (white building with big Tecate sign out front). Hope to see you there.

Humble beginnings but check out the photos of the opening last night. It was fun. Now kids will be able to get therapy for 5 pesos. The organization will offset the cost. Visit us if you can. Below is the link to the photos.
