Bahia Concepcion Palapas

Heading south in a couple of days and I'm wondering how well the palapas in Santispac, Coyote, La Perla etc survived Jimena. Any still standing? Are all the usual beaches accessible?

Of course I'll be heading elsewhere if Hurricane Rick is going to be there. But I'm going somewhere. It's time for a Baja road trip.

k-rico:

When we drove along Santispac last week, there were only 4 ramadas (won't even call them palapas since they only had a roof) standing on the main part of the beach. It looked like there was maybe one by the mangroves. All those that used to be along the road leading out to the point were flattened. Accessibility to all parts of Santispac was fine.

I think that all of the palapas on Los Cocos were also gone. There was quite a bit of damage to the road there, most noteably right along the mangroves just behind the beach and as it was high tide when we past, the road close to beach was submerged. However, there were a number of RV's already on the beach at the far end and they didn't seem to be bothered by the water.

We didn't go beyond Los Cocos. Naranjos had some damage, but there may be some palapas there available.

Have a safe trip. The Highway was in very good shape all the way to and beyond Mulege (to at least Cocos), with the one main exception being just at the north of Santa Rosalia just past the first gas station (on the north end of town). Arroyo now crosses the highway and it was all dirt and rough, but no real problem. Other stretch under construction still (as of the 14th) is south of Maneadero where they are redoing the highway and building a couple of bridges.

This is what the beach at Santispac looked like one month ago, but from ecomujeres excellent description I would imagine little has changed. Except...the ample supply of driftwood/firewood may be less by this time.

I drove into all the camping beaches from Pta. Arena to the south end of the bay without incident. RV camping anywhere would be possible. Finding a palapa in one piece may be a problem though.

-----Of course, Hurricane Rick could change everything.-----

Good luck with your trip.
