Are they hauling out boats at Los Barrilles? The "East Cape Classic" fishing tournament is supposed to run Thurs - Sat, with folks arriving at Hotel
Palmas de Cortez on Weds - just wondering if anybody down there knows what's happening there in terms of Hurricane Rick preparation...
With the forecast track continuing to shift the predicted path more Easterly, it looks like it may miss making actual landfall, but skirt the southern
tip... http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_ep5+shtml/023713.sh...

best guess?....call the hotel..
wadeinthewater - 10-18-2009 at 08:45 PM
The Classic has been canceled until April, is what I heard this afternoon. Those coming for it should call the agency or hotel to comfirm this though.
slimshady - 10-18-2009 at 08:45 PM
Fishing may not be a pleasant experience even if it skirts the tip of Cabo.
mulegemichael - 10-18-2009 at 08:47 PM
might be a swell out there, methinks
wadeinthewater - 10-18-2009 at 08:49 PM
The Bisbee on the other hand will go on!! Even if they only fish Friday, is what the Bisbees say. They have teams already here from as far away as
Japan.

Lynn Rose did cancel her tournament until April 2010. The boats from the hotels have been pulled. Palmas is now pulling their final boats. The seas
are calm, slight winds, no rain as of now. Our friend that has been fishing the last two days, was getting 90 degree water. Hurricane Rick will love
that..we are all just getting ready, the best we can. It looks like we're in for winds and rain.
BajaNaranja - 10-19-2009 at 02:26 PM
Thanks Bill - Just got word about the tourney being postponed until April.
Good luck if you are down there now, batten down the hatches and gas up your generator - hopefully Rick continues to fizzle.
Thanks again -

This just in... now they are holding off on rescheduling the East Cape Classic as the hurricane falls apart and forecast track shifts more east... now
the call will be made by 9 AM tomorrow...
Bill Collector - 10-19-2009 at 04:19 PM
Just talked with Lynn Rose, she said if the AIRPORT is open on Wednesday they will be here. The tournament will be on..
Bajahowodd - 10-19-2009 at 04:21 PM
Imagine that some people may have already canceled their flights. Well, they can blame the airline!
Bill Collector - 10-20-2009 at 09:06 AM
Lynn said this morning, they are coming in. She's got 100 guys ready to go fishing.......Should be a fun tournament.
BajaNaranja - 10-20-2009 at 09:32 AM
I AM THERE!! Hoping they can make bait...
Bill Collector - 10-20-2009 at 01:59 PM

Los Barriles Reporters!!!
looks like this should be peak time for the storm in the area.... what's happening??????????
Bill Collector - 10-20-2009 at 03:33 PM
Hi
Right now we just had a very large down pour, not sure about Los Barriles, we are South of there, closer to Rancho Leonero. We look right across the
bay to Los Barriles.. Last storm, we got more rain than they did in town. Very dark clouds coming our way.Very little winds so far, the seas are
calm..Went into town about 2 hours ago. There are CFE trucks parked along the road from Spa Buena Vista going into Los Barriles.Maybe they know
something we don't. Will keep you posted as long as we have power..

Baja Joe's La Ventana webcam updates every minute or so:

BajaNaranja - 10-20-2009 at 04:14 PM
Looks like Alaska flight 250 got into SJD today no worries, landed at 1:30 or so.
That Baja Joe's web cam doesn't make it look too bad down there.
This former chubasco should be ashore at mainland Mex at about 11 AM tomorrow according to the Natl Weather Service.
FISH ON!!
BajaNaranja - 10-20-2009 at 04:18 PM
And of course, good luck to all who are down there now, hopefully you don't get too roughed up. Thankfully Rick cooled off.
Bajahowodd - 10-20-2009 at 04:30 PM
But. In the future, do not forget how powerful this storm became. Can anyone even imagine being subjected to 180mph sustained winds and gusts to 225?
I sincerely hope there won't be another any time soon. But.
Bill Collector - 10-20-2009 at 06:03 PM
Here's a shot taken 7PM from our deck towards Palmas de Cortez. It's getting darker, still no winds.

Rick hit us hard during the night.Started around 10 PM, had strong winds, plenty of rain. We lost power about 4:30, glad we have generators. It looks
like the town of Los Barriles has power but not sure. Our roads are a mess.........
Bill Collector - 10-21-2009 at 07:01 AM
This morning after Mr. Rick stopped by.
Bill Collector - 10-21-2009 at 07:05 AM
Plenty of standing water around.
Bill Collector - 10-21-2009 at 07:39 AM
Will try to post the picture once again. We are getting some strong surf this morning.

shari - 10-21-2009 at 07:54 AM
looks nasty but really glad Rick cooled his jets...hmm...maybe more surf headed our way then?
