Tuna hungry in Asuncion

shari - 10-23-2009 at 07:44 AM

After the big swell from "Rick", the yellowfin tuna had a voracious appetite. It was double hookups all morning yesterday and everybody got their limits of nice big tuna as well as yellowtail and calico. The water is nice and clear and 78 degrees.
As usual, the fishermen are suffering from noodle arms and had to go home early as their coolers are stuffed full now...poor guys eh. The campground looked like a fish plant yesterday with everyone processing and bagging fish.

Our kayak fishermen also caught the biggest calico they'd EVER seen..around 10 lbs. ...man these guys have some cool stuff on their yaks...fishfinder/gps even.

Here is our smiley deckhand Juan Carlos with one of the tuna.

oh yeah...but I'm not there to take photos...they have been getting nice corvina and boca dulce in fsront of the beach house and at los choros...also some calico and even yellowtail off the rocks, and at the boat ramp and off the beach when the pelicans are diving and dolphins are around...no worries

Our pal David, just got here from the great north and his first day out in his tin boat with grmpb he was pleased as punch to get this honkin tuna (29 lbs), a dorado and a couple more nice tuna too just out at Asuncion Island. they said the purple rapallas got no action and they got everything on the silver ex rap....hmmm...but all juan's tuna took the purple rapalla and cedar plugs from 500 meters off the beach out to 4 miles...they're everywhere.

shari - 10-24-2009 at 05:46 AM

no hay pedo compas.....seems there are more tuna around every day so as long as people respect the limits, there should be enough for everybody!

Tiomiguel - 10-24-2009 at 08:37 AM

Can you smile anymore Dave with that honking big fish. Boy wish that we were there now, when the weather is so nice, the water warmer, and the fish biting like crazy. Hopefully there will be some Tuna left by the time we get down there for Christmas.
Hey Diver, you coming down this Christmas. Would be great to get together again after all of your troubles last year.

Seiners?

Paulina - 10-24-2009 at 11:08 AM

Has the Ensenada fleet showed up off the coast to wrap them up yet?

there were 3 or 4 boats working offshore at nights I saw last week but havent seen them out there this week...good thing.

msteve1014 - 10-25-2009 at 06:45 AM

Yes the seiners are working around La Bocana all this week.

DianaT, Do you really think he cleaned and packed 40 tuna in one hour? He kept 3 or 4.

shari - 10-25-2009 at 06:50 AM

oh that's where they went!

When I read the Bocana post, I was thinking ...man...they must be like superfishcleaners to do all that so fast...I think the post was a bit misleading...didnt come across like catch and release but if that is what they did....good for them. there are SOOOOO many tuna around now.

But we sure get alot of fishermen here who WOULD take that many fish given the chance and often whine about the limits and try to convince us to let them have more.
