So, maybe I'm being cranky. But how is it that so many posters here on Nomad just don't know the spelling difference between the English word for La Frontera and the word that describes your spouse's cousin sleeping in your spare bedroom?

Board means meals - not the sleeping arrangement - and your spouse's cousin isn't paying board - so technically he's a mooch.

So maybe I could have used someone who surfs as the example. The reason I started this thread was because I was actually curious. The forum has a ton of members, with masssive daily posting activity. It's a credit to all that by and large, the posts reflect accurate spelling and syntax. Obviously, an intelligent and educated bunch. But, having caught a post yesterday, I was reminded that the spelling of the word denoting the demarcation between the US and Mexico seems to me the most often misspelled word on here. Just made me scratch my head. All sorts of geographical terms, technical terms, Etc. are correct. And then there's "that" word.

hey- at least no one mentioned ebonics.

I better question would be why many high school graduates couldn't read, write or spell to save their lives.

My understanding of informal internet forums like this one is that correct spelling and proper grammar are secondary to just communicating...

Another anomaly as I see it...The machine won't accept Mike-y as non hyphenated. It comes out as Mike. Weird..for sure. Maybe Mikeee was a notorious Natzeee.
