OK. I am planning on hauling a used engine down to La Paz to replace the destroyed engine in my Ford F350. Last winter my truck blew the engine down
there. I live in La Paz for the winter - have a home, pay utility bills there as well as property taxes. I am not bringing the engine for re-sale -
just to replace the one that is shot. I have a letter from my mechanic stating that the engine is being used to replace the bad one. It is as if I
were going to replace a clothes washer that was broken - like household goods.
Do I have to pay customs duties on it? I have a FM3 and proof of property ownership. I even have a Senior Discount card (for what its worth).
I have registration for truck, current license, etc. Any forms I need?
Thanks all.

You will be safe to pay the import tax. It would be wise to use those shippers from San Diego that send a truck down to baja. Rather pay the money
than have it confiscated at the border.
You can either go with the same reciept or have have an altered reciept with a highly discounted sales price on it to avoid more taxes.

One would think a used engine would be available in La Paz. A lot less hassle.....dt

We have taken outboard motors across with a receipt from a repair shop. I don't remember if we were checked.

dtbushpilot:
My Mexican friends and mechanics searched all over Baja for a used engine. No dice. I assumed they could at least get one from a bullet riddled one
in Tijuana but no luck. I even warned my friends with diesels in San Diego that they might be missing a Ford. Free enterprise is dead!
It is amazing that there is so little (none) information on this type of problem. I Googled everything possible and came up with nothing.
Oh well. If I post from a jail in Tecate, please come quick!
