Anyone one of basic overnight accommodations in Santa Gertrudis (the one between Vizcaino and Bahia San Francisquito) ??

I read that link via "search"...it was a year ago and still no answer....Shari is too busy making sushi and being Baja's greatest hostess to do that
research....sheeeesh 
I doubt there is anything, but a hacienda with a cot would suffice

I would be interested to hear your planned route... Are you going on any of Kacey's routes over the mountains (El Camino Real)? Otherwise you could go
on to San Francisquito north or San Ignacio south from Sta. Gertrudis...

Keno is a fantastic guy but I dont know if he has made his hacienda into a hospedaje or not...years ago his plan was to make a dignified place for the
elders of Sta.Gertrudis to stay...kind of assisted living so they didnt have to leave thier place.
I tried to call him at Santo Remedio, his restaurant in GN but the Sta.Gertrudis fiestas are this weekend so he is there. He had a fire at the
hacienda a few months ago so I dont know what the status of it is. He'll be back in GN in a few days so I will try again then.
gotta go make sashimi now!!

Check with Paco...he lives just across from the Pemex...he might have a tree that you could pitch a hammock. I'll wait for your contribution on the
subject.

Every time I try to sleep in a hammock I do the twirl and end up on the sand

I will be riding into Santa Gertrudis on my way north or south between San Francisquito and Vizcaino...not sure portion of my trip in February yet...
I don't have Kacey's route info yet, so don't know about routes other than the usual one (the shortcut you sent me last week
).
I will at least be able to make it in and out of SG on that leg of the ride.
The day ride will be between San Francisquito and Bahia Asuncion with a side trip to SG....one way or the other, and the side trip might make it a
long day and I do n't want to be riding past 5:00 pm (earlier if approaching fog towards Asuncion).
I hope to spend a few days around Catavina as well as Bahia de los Angeles, so might try the XR trail or Santa Maria mission route...still in the
planning phase

I believe there is a bike trail east out of the Santa Maria mission site....and is one of Kacey's trails (probably Bill Nichols' trail).
A story:
Two years ago I was enjoying dinner at Costa del Sol in Bahia de los Angeles with my riding buddy when we noticed a "Darth Vader" truck parked in the
lot....it was a custom 3/4 ton job with a metal canopy on the back that made it look like that stealth navy ship they hide in San Diego....
We did not see it pull in and wondered who owned it.
Before long, an older fellow (late 60's for sure) and a younger guy (mid-30's) walked by and took up a table nearby in the outside table area. They
checked out our bikes and the usual ramble ensued. These folks were from Arizona and were riding in the area as well...."checking out routes"
according to the wizened elder...and they invited us to join them the next day. We declined as we had plans to go to San Francisquito for an overnight
the next day....the conversation continued and we learned that the elder was no other than Bill Nichols, who I had never heard of up to that
time....we were in awe as the evening progressed as Bill knew my dirt-bike mentor here in B.C., Al Perrett, who had ridden with Bill....and who has a
place in BoLA these days....

The only trail (south or east) out of Mision Santa Maria is the Camino Real, and it is muy, muy difficult to do on a trials type ride... think a young
Malcolm Smith or a more recent Kevin Ward... Kevin made it to the mission from Gonzaga and back... but did some major damage to his ride. It is NOT
recommended... even burros have a hard time on it now. See my 'El Camino Real from space' series.. Part one is from Santa Maria south.
Kacey tried to find a route from Gonzaga to the mission and failed, per her first book. The closest crossover point was La Turquesa Canyon which she
calls the XR Ride. 'The squarecircle' with help from TW and friends did the XR Ride UP in his Land Rover... Photos on Nomad.

Again, this part of the Camino Real trail is recommended for hiking only... but it was traveled by Kevin Ward on a m/c a few years ago.
