Toll road rip off

Mexicorn - 11-16-2009 at 07:00 PM

FYI If you’re taking the Toll road from the free road heading southbound from Rosarito those crooks that run the Toll road have officially shut down the southbound on ramp to the toll road from the free road indefinitely. They have put up a permanent steel gate that’s cemented into place and removed the southbound asphalt. Those guys will do anything to "RIP OFF THE GRINGO” And I'm peeed-
You now have to drive all the way to Stinko Tapia stopping at two worthless stop signs strategically set up next to crappy business like OXXO. I'm peeed! There is sure to be a few DUI head on collisions since there is one lane in each direction! The powers that be at the rip off toll road dont give a ship about you because your Norte gringo dollars can still access Puerto Nuevo from the north (SD) and if you’re going back north after you’ve partaken of one of those deep fried Chilean lobsters their slinging down there.
Word to your mother

It's most likely the road construction project that has been ongoing for over a year. They have done it farther south and normally re-open very quickly.

As a non-resident/ gringo/ tourist I really don't mind paying the price for lack of local knowledge now and then, it's just part of the romance of travel. However if things like this make it hard for residents and you die hard Nomads then I guess I can understand why someone seems a bit wound up :O

Puerto Nuevo S/B on ramp and Cantimar S/B on ramp open, no problems.... And I have never had a problem stopping for those stop signs

The southbound on ramp at Raul`s has been closed for about a month now.
No biggie, just a temporary detour for the toll road construction.
Should add only a few minutes to your drive.
Have to admit, they are doing some fine infrastructure work in northern Baja. Just seems to take forever!!

I agree with Fisher.
The Puerto Nuevo toll road on-ramp is only temporarily closed because of the repaving project on the toll road. The Cantamar ramp is open, however, and it's only a 4 mile detour. That's how I found a fine and inexpensive auto detailer right at the Cantamar on ramp. With 4 guys working on your vehicle, your vehicle is detailed in less than an hour.
The price?
I negotiated it down to $50.00 U.S. and left a $16.00 U.S. tip because of the superb job they did. I'll be bringing down my truck in a couple of weeks for these guys to work it over. It's really worth the drive!

650.00 Pesos for a car detail ??????? I pay half that in Los Angeles !!!!

The redone sections south of Cantamar are as smooth as the proverbial baby behind. Very nice. The end of the north bound toll road into T.J. is now three nice new concrete lanes all the way to the newer Pemex on the right. It was a mess for a while, but it is great now. Glad to see some work actually get completed!
