One morning last fall I arrived at Thetis Bank at first light hoping to be the first one there and found San Diego long range boat Qualifier 105
camped out on the high spot.

I thought I saw this boat off of Asuncion...is that possible? We are starting to see these long range boats now on the fishing grounds here. I was
kinda bummed thinking...rats...they are gonna affect the stocks here plus they dont have biosphere reserve permits....but then Juan and his clients
were telling me how they LOVE when the long range boats show up because they throw chum out and all the sea lions immediately head over to their boat

BajaRae......That photo was taken in the Pacific outside Mag Bay south of Thetis Bank and about 50 miles offshore one morning last fall.
Shari......It would not surprise me if Q105 and other long range boats start dropping in at Asuncion. On the tuna banks where I fish when I launch
out of Lopez Mateos it is unusual not to see one or more this time of year. I, like Juan, have mixed feelings about them. When they anchor on a high
spot and chum they tend to monopolize the action, to some extent. But, on the other hand, sometimes when you find the long range boats it is like
finding diving birds or schools of porpoise. There are probably some fish there.DianaT - 11-19-2009 at 10:04 AM
