In Thanks for the Help & A Cookie Recipe For You

Thanks to all Nomads who generously shared their experience and advice on my question about Garlic Mashed Potatoes.

In return, here is a recipe from my mother-in-law's file, with a mystery attached:

Chocolate Macaroons

3 squares unsweetened chocolate
1 can of sweetened, condensed milk
1 tsp. vanilla
16 pecans, chopped
Pinch of salt
26(?) coconut

Melt chocolate, stir in milk, vanilla and salt. Add coconut and chopped pecans. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto buttered cooking sheet and bake in oven at 350 degrees for ten minutes. Remove from cooking sheet immediately.

so, you Nomads out there who like to bake macaroons, what does "26 coconuts" mean?

Solve the mystery and I will post another "Our Own" recipe from her file, maybe the one for fruitcake or...maybe the one for the special eggnog.

Cheers and happy turkey day to all.

GJ

It means this:

down at an english fair,
one evening i was there,
when i heard a showman shouting, underneath the flair

i've got a lovely bunch of coconuts,
there they are standing in a row,
big ones, small ones, some as big as your head,
give 'em a twist a flick of the wrist,
that's what the showman said

i've got a lovely bunch of coconuts,
everybody throw and make me rich,
there stands me wife,
the idle of me life,
singin' role a pole a ball, a penny a pitch

singin' role a pole a ball, a penny a pitch,
singin' role a pole a ball, a penny a pitch,
role a pole a ball,
role a pole a ball,
singin' role a pole a ball, a penny a pitch

i've got a lovely bunch of coconuts,
(there lovely!)
there they are standing in a row,
(1,2,3,4)
big ones, small ones, some as big as your head,
(and bigger)
give em' a twist, a flick of the wrist,
that's what the showman said

now that i've got a lovely bunch of coconuts,
(da,da,da,da,da)
everybody throw and make me rich,
(have a banana)
there stands me wife,
the idle of me life,
singin' role a pole a ball, a penny a pitch

all together now,
singin' role a pole a ball, a penny a pitch,
harmony,
singin' role a pole a ball, a penny a pitch,
r,r,r,r,r,r,r,role a pole a ball,
role a pole a ball,
singin' role a pole a ball, a penny a pitch

singin' role a pole a ball, a penny a piiiiiiitch.
