bahia de los angeles- daggett's

absinvestor - 12-3-2009 at 05:00 PM

I'm thinking we may camp at Bahia De Los Angeles for a couple of days on our way to Bahia de la Conception. (Late January or early February 2010.) We will just be hanging out with two dogs and not fishing. It is somewhat out of the way but it looks like the road is paved? We travel in a 31' motorhome so we'll be doing the round trip on Mexico 12. Is the side trip worth the time (we are not in any hurry) and would Daggett's be the place to camp? Thanks Ron

Ab
Daggetts is a good place. I don't think the restaurant is open but Larry and Raquels is next door or since the road is paved it is easy to go back into town and go to a nice place to eat if you want.

Daggetts would be my choice as there is always a chance of wind at that time of year and their 3 sided palapas could come in handy.

PS. Yes, it is definitely worth the side trip. It is still kind of old Baja but even that is changing quick. Don't forget to take in the museum. I was impressed considering the location. BoLA is not really the middle of nowhere but you can certainly see it from there. :-)

As you drive the paved road east towards BLA, you will get the most wonderful panorama of the bay and the islands and you'll know it was well worth the detour.

We left our motorhome at Daggets for storage, and it's fine for camping if you want company. We prefer to drive north on the dirt road past Daggets and park at La Gringa point. There you can be alone with a great view kinda like the old days.

Agree... La Gringa, opposite Smith Island:

Daggett's

We have camped at Daggett's and it is a great place. It is paved to their approach and the road from there is not bad and it's less than a mile long.
I would highly reccommend it.

Have a good trip, we are heading the same way Feb.1 2010 can't wait, we usually leave BOLA for on the way home.

Thanks to everybody. Is the dirt road to La Gringa ok for a 31' motorhome? Thanks again. Ron

It is a wide, hard surface, but washboardy graded road... It may be better or worse since I was on it last (3 years ago). The idea was to pave it all the way to La Gringa for the Escalera Nautica marina... But, that is a dead fish. It is only a few miles from Daggett's.

I think its 14 miles to La Gringa from Daggetts and the rocks a razor sharp

in places you can do it but need to drive super slow 5 miles or slower. I ve

been going to Rubens and Amandas place for 16yrs. They are familia. If

you see him tell him Armando says hi. His son Poncho pretty much is

incharge all the time but Ruben likes to be involve once in a while.

Thank you Armando. I will tell your "familia" hello!! Thanks again. Ron

The AAA map has the total mileage from the main road into L.A. Bay to La Gringa at 7.6 miles. Mike & Terri Church's Camping Mexico's Baja says it is 7 miles from town to La Gringa... with Daggett's being less than 2 miles from town.

We took our 34' out and had no issues. Go all the way to the point, don't turn right to the beach berm. There are about four spaces there.

Thanks to all. Ron
