BajaDanD - 12-6-2009 at 12:09 AM

they had hot water when I was there I watched them put in a small electric water heater on a flimsey stand outside the bathroom.

Barbareno - 12-6-2009 at 07:27 AM

Perry, that's not the way I remember her.

When are you heading down?

Hot water.

Pompano - 12-6-2009 at 09:05 PM

Vagabundo and all...a few of us were just over to Juan and Shari's campground in Asuncion. Lots of hot water, great view, and we had a super fun time.

Now we're back in Coyote Bay...not exactly in hot water, but still having a super time.

I recommend you go see what Asuncion (and Shari/Juan) have to offer. You won't be disappointed. For me, it's like Baja was 40 years ago.

.

vgabndo - 12-6-2009 at 09:54 PM

Right you are Pomp. I spent a couple of weeks there last year by myself. It will be great fun sharing it with my best friend.

We will be away from here for all of January. I had hoped to be there for New Years like last year, but we may be a day or two later. Being non-drinkers it isn't too hard to pass up that party.

Iflyfish - 12-7-2009 at 12:11 AM

Pomp, sorry you fell of your stool. They sure know how to party there!

Iflyfish

jorgie - 12-7-2009 at 05:35 AM

Pomp , is that Pacifico Shari y Juan are drinking ?

wessongroup - 12-7-2009 at 06:24 AM

That's a great picture, the smiles tell it all... and glad to see the dogs get to go too:biggrin::biggrin:

Iflyfish - 12-7-2009 at 09:07 AM

Pacifico, nada mas!

Iflyfish

Hook - 12-7-2009 at 09:18 AM

If those dogs are Pompano's, I may have to change my opinion of him.

Aren't those Lap Yappers?

Might have to this time - what's the drive time from the main highway (1) ?

From the main highway it is about 70+/- miles. It takes us about 1 1/2 these days depending on what we have in the back of the truck. It really depends on what you are driving.

The first 40+ miles from Vizcaino to the turn off to BA is paved, but has some major areas of pot holes and broken road---mainly the salt flat areas. They are always working on it, so it depends on what they have done.

Also, there used to be just one big dune on the road and now there are several small ones that spill onto the roads. They look soft, but they are hard as a concrete tope---learned the hard way.

The road from the Tortugas road to Bahia Asuncion is 25+ miles. When we left a few weeks ago, all but the last 8 miles have been paved and they have surveyed the last 80 miles.

The first part that was paved has some nasty spots from a big rain storm a few years ago, the rest of the pavement is great, the the dirt part changes from very smooth to washboard nasty---depends on when the grader has been there.

There are a couple of soft spots---no big deal.

And when you can see the town, you will have a choice of roads to take into town---the main road that follows the power lines or the roller coaster road to the right---both get there.

Great place, but then again, we are quite biased.

Mojo, These are the pothoes Diana is talking about

But as they say, Bad roads = good people.

I remember not so long ago when large stretches of Highway 1 looked like that!

Say .. Any windsurfing to be had there? - I know it's windy - wondering about wind direction - launch from campsites..

It does remind one of Highway 1 in the past.

I know zero about windsurfing, but we do have some wind almost everyday, especially in the afternoons. In the spring, we have LOTS of wind. The prevailing wind, except in summer, comes from the north.

I have never seen anyone wind-surfing there----what is required to make it a good wind-surfing area?

20+ knots side to cross on / off shore wind - probably starts in March - I'll have a look! I have other toys - kayak , fishing stuff- bike , surfboard .

Kayak---great, in season can even catch fish
Great mountain bike trail---we have a good team--I assume that is bike as in bicycle
Surfboard---sometimes right in front of our home, and often at Punta Choros just south of town

BTW--re hotwater at Campo Sirena-----those electric hotwater heaters take a while to really heat up.

HMMMMM?

Diana - are you holding out- is BA a secret surf spot ;D

dtbushpilot - 12-7-2009 at 09:03 PM

Diana, don't you dare disclose the SUPER SECRET surfing locations near BA, nobody knows about them yet, no current map indicates their location, hoards of "squids" from the states will converge on the location and take all the good waves...there are only so many waves to go around.....let's keep them for the locals and the chosen few....

Just a thought....if a wave happens and there isn't a surfer there to catch it did it really happen?....could you get a new one ...kinda like a refund? does a beach have a predetermined number of waves and then no more? What happens to all the waves that nobody surfs? can we get them back, a rebate perhaps?

Seems like such a waste, all those waves and nobody there to catch them....sorry woody, I couldn't resist....after a bottle of wine...dt

This is great!

Guess I am really dense---I don't have a clue what you are talking about.

Other than helping to support our local surf team, I don't give a rip about surfing or surf spots. On the other hand, I do respect and would honor the feelings of others and understand their frustration over this issue.

Your point was lost on me----oh well,

Tiomiguel - 12-8-2009 at 03:14 PM

The surfing and body boarding is great at the secret surf beach, I got killed there last year. For windsurfing, the bay in front of the Beach House is fairly calm at Christmas when I am always down, but with a fairly good wind. Ie. fairly flat water with wind. In my old sailor language, its pretty good. If you are looking for extreme windsurfing in big waves, just to to the surf beach or just about anywhere else. I have not seen anybody doing it but thats only because I am not there that much or they have not found it yet.

Afraid it is not much of a secret anymore with all the tournaments and now they have left up the sign attached to an old tire to point the way----it is a beautiful spot.

Really, you don't get it? Thanks Dern for the good laugh at Nomad hypocracy. The point

You give great details on THE ROAD to the place... and there just happens to be great surfing in the area... You are NOT a surfer... Your road details were not intended to bring surfers there. You just wanted to let fellow Baja Nomads know how it was.

I gave great details on THE ROAD that goes by a different place... just happens to be great surfing in the area... I am NOT a surfer... My road details were not intended to bring surfers there. Just wanted to let Baja Nomads know how it was.

WHAT WAS DIFFERENT?

Only one of us got 'attacked' by a certain Nomad for doing such a crime...!:o:light::lol::smug:

Thanks Dern for the good laugh at Nomad hypocracy. The point is all places can be special to some of us... but the land is open and Baja Nomads are the good folks... We want the places to remain special and if one of us can enjoy a place, so can another.

Please understand I want Diane and all Nomads to feel free to post Baja road details without fearing public harassment for practicing our freedom here. Information GOOD... Ignorance BAD !

Apples and oranges----totally apples and oranges which is why it was lost on me.

David K - 12-8-2009 at 03:52 PM

Really??? I don't see any difference on principle between your road log to Asuncion and mine to Santa Rosalillita... Both are road descriptions to assist Nomads who may wish to drive it... nothing more, nothing less.

Both places can appeal to surfers, fishermen, boaters, beachcombers, off roaders, campers... the same!

vgabndo - 12-8-2009 at 04:27 PM

In case you missed it David, the answer to my question was:

Yes, there is hot water in the shower at Campo Serena.

David K - 12-8-2009 at 04:35 PM

No Perry, I didn't miss it... You got your answer! Threads often take on a life of their own... I am no different than you being one who started a thread and others take it to many different sub-subjects.

Funny you pick me out of the masses who posted above me and after your answer? Oh well, I know why... LOL!

That's how the inmates at San Quentin used to know when 'Old Sparky' was being used.

shari - 12-8-2009 at 09:43 PM

Hola amigo...just back from agua verde...I will not disclose the secret spot but will do a trip report when I have a moment....we have been fixing up Campo Sirena poco a poco...little by little. We just did an emergency quick installation of a real water heater when our other system crapped out. The base has now been beefed up thanks to grmpb!!! So lots of hot water now...a pretty impressive library and some games and puzzles too in the clubhouse....a couple new plug in hook ups too. It's not a traditional campground but more a funky small camping area at the beach but in town so you can walk to the stores. Really look forward to seeing you again pal!

David K - 12-9-2009 at 08:55 AM

Thanks Shari for the service and information you provide... You and Juan deserve success for your hard work and kindness!

Before you joined Baja Nomad, there was really nothing known about the area. Just an occaisional report on Abreojos, Tortugas or Malarrimo Beach was all we got. Not only do we have photos, town news, and fishing reports... but a great bed & breakfast facility, camping and charter fishing thanks to you both!

What you have done by joining Baja Nomad is also been a great boost to the Asuncion economy... homes sold, more motel and restaurant business, other fish charter service business, beer and food purchases in town...

Good Job! :bounce::bounce::bounce::light::smug::yes:

Weather at Camp Sirena

oldjack - 12-9-2009 at 10:41 AM

Shari...

I always enjoy your reports and appreciated your recommendations.... I am always looking for a warm spot to hang out and fish(it was -9 here in Boise this a.m.)... maybe you could provide an annual weather chart and/or a weather report on the website...

My experience in Baja goes back to b.f. d.k.(before david k) about 1961/2 and I wish the hell he had invented the web instead of crazy al.... it never ocurred to me to fish the west coast because I was always seeking that warm weather... I get grumpy when it is cold enough for jackets and long pants...

shari - 12-9-2009 at 11:10 AM

thanks everyone, it's gratifying when the local business operators thank us as well for our contributions to the town's economy...does my heart good.

the weather...well...it's a mixed bag but oldjack...the nicest weather for no pants is from july-november with the fishing best from august-december.

oldjack - 12-9-2009 at 11:15 AM

Shari....

I am far to old/ugly to go naked!!!! but I am a shorts and t-shirt kind of guy.... and very fond of obseving the bikini set!!!!

still would like to know the "typical" weather for the months...
