Are the new enhanced inspections in place and causing delays. I am crossing at TJ in a week or so and wondering if anything has changed and need to
adjust my time frame?

Crossed last Friday evening at 6:00pm and the wait was 1 1/2 hours to enter Mexico. Line extremely slow.
Upon reaching customs, the cars entering Mexico started honking their horns in unison.DENNIS - 12-6-2009 at 10:16 AM
Make it a point to NOT go near the border on a Friday afternoon. That is the worst time of the week.Howard - 12-6-2009 at 10:33 AM

May I suggest that you change your mind frame over your time frame and it will make the problem a lot more tolerable.
border crossing delays

sat mike,
Welcome to Nomad, and I would like to recommend that you consider crossing at Tecate.
Yes, it will take you a bit out of your way, if you are only going to TJ, but if you are headed further south it is the quickest and safest crossing
gate.
You can pull up David K's directions from Tecate to Blvd 2000, which will get you to Rosarito Beach in 1/2 hour.
Personally, I do everything I can to avoid TJ altogether. DENNIS - 12-6-2009 at 11:04 AM

As do I. The problem is ten million other people don't.maspacifico - 12-6-2009 at 05:00 PM
I crossed last Sunday at 5:30 am. Nobody in line except me.rts551 - 12-6-2009 at 06:21 PM
with only the one lane going into Mexico, can you imagine what Tecate is going to be like if all those that are frustrated with Tijuana take this
"long way around"bajadock - 12-6-2009 at 06:37 PM
Friday, 4 Dec 17:30 crossing south into TJ Mexico wait time was 42 minutes on I-5. Red light for me, as were 5th and 3rd vehicles ahead of me in my
lane.
Used to hope that vehicles just ahead of me were red-lighted, as this meant GREEN at my turn. The rules change reularly in Mexico.
Did successfully "import" several bottles of grape juice and home electronics.DENNIS - 12-6-2009 at 06:55 PM

It won't happen. There's something about the American mindset that remains optomistic. Most people don't think it will happen to them untill it's
too late and they're caught in the middle of it.rts551 - 12-6-2009 at 08:01 PM
Maybe, but it seems like there is enough people "recommending" others take the alternative route... not realizing how fragile it is. How many cars
before the first light backs up?
on edit.. maybe they are hoping everyone else takes the alternative route

I recommend that everyone go to Tecate. I will cross at TJ, early in the morning. You still get pulled in for a look, but there are no lines....yet.Cyanide41 - 12-7-2009 at 07:29 AM
The lines aren't as bad as they used to be a few months ago. Dennis is right, friday nights are typically the worst. Though I crossed into Mexico
from Otay last Friday at around 6:30 it was fairly painless. I got the Red light which was probably the 3rd in my last 4 crossings. The lady took a
quick glance inside and sent me on my way.
