best roads into biosphere La Laguna

elfbrewery - 12-8-2009 at 04:24 PM

My friends and I would like to view the Reserva La Laguna via 4x4 on a day trip from the east side to the west side (like Los Barriles to Todos Santos). Does anyone know the best roads to take in the best scenery? Are the roads in reasonable condition to do this in one day? I hear there are interesting ranchos and hot springs in the area.
Thanks for any info.

My favorite spot there is the area around San Pedro de Frijolar. You drive in just north of Todos Santos on the road to the Presa Santa Inez. It's a really beautiful area with a lot of water and some amazing scenery. Also San Antonio de La Sierra is a really beautiful area to explore and you can get quite high into the mountains there. You can drive from San Antonio to Todos Santos on back roads through the sierra but the roads are tricky I've done it many times on my motorcycle and I still get lost.

If you start west of El Triunfo and leave Hwy 1 take the road to El Rosario, continue through the town going south, down a hill and through a creek. From there you have good road for a few miles. You turn off the main road to the left at an old village/mining community. From there you should be able to follow race markers up over the mountains and come out at the dam and then the highway just north of Todos Santos. This route takes you through the area where they are doing mineral exploration and are proposing a mine. There is one area of the road that is rough and hard to navigate in 2 wheel drive, so 4x4 is best. The race markers are red and yellow ribbons.

The Rancho Naranjo road north (8 or so KMS) of the San Jose airport goes west to the Pacific coast and comes out south of Todos Santos around Pescadero....delicious !!!!:yes::yes:
