Baja summer adventure

AndyP - 12-8-2009 at 11:46 PM

Adventure! Crime! A fat lady who pees her pants!

Back in 2006 my wife and I spent the summer wandering around Baja, on a tight budget. We had some good times, and I finally got around to putting up a trip report on our blog, complete with about forty pictures and some funny stories.

Click here to see the trip report

Cheers, Andy

Note: I tried to put the report up on this forum, but I couldn't get the pictures to show up so the link will have to do.

Thanks for the post.

You went through Hurricane John, I believe. That makes you two Hurricaneros (or somthin' like that).

Nice lifestyle!

Andy - Loved your whole adventure story, and the photos were fabulous. A true Baja on a budget event. Thanks.

A great read. Thank you for sharing.

It's too bad that it had to end that way. Sometimes that can leave a final impression about a trip. There are visitors on this forum who have traveled baja a lifetime and never experienced a break in.

Thanks Andy !

Great travelogue and photos !

I spend many days, weeks, and months in old VW vans back in the 70's, 80's and 90's "vagabundo-ing" as we used to call it. Your photos and stories stir the memories !

You're fortunate to have a great travel companion partner too!

Thanks for sharing !

Great story and love the photos.

I am really sorry for the break-in, but I am sure glad you got the Chacos back---that would have been a REAL loss.

Are you planning on returning to Baja?

Thanks for sharing this

a good trip and report Mr. AndyP - reminded me of our 1st areoplane camping adventure, 14 days flying and camping beach side all over the peninsula in 1983.

but...."Developers being their incredibly lame selves"....:smug:

ahem....had it not been for some of those lame developers you might not have enjoyed that AC hotel room for those 2 nites respite from the heat and bugs.

got to hand it to you though for braving the cortez side especially concepcion in summer. that heat is brutal then. you should go again but in oct or april - the 2 best months on the peninsula.

Andy,

Really enjoyed your report and pictures. Got to say that you really had guts rounding that point axle deep in salt water in you Van. I hope it's a leased vehicle.:lol::lol:

Thanks for all the compliments everybody. And please, development is inevitable but renaming Bahia de los Muertos is almost undeniably... lame.

We are headed back to Baja! We just bought a sweet Feathercraft K2 folding kayak that holds a ton of gear, and it should make a great Sea of Cortez expedition boat. We're ski bumming in Utah this winter, and as soon as the season ends in mid-April we'll be getting ready to head south. I'm thinking a month kayaking from Mulege to La Paz should be about perfect. May should be a lot more comfortable than August!

And I'm taking a real spear gun this time.

BooJumMan - 12-11-2009 at 10:21 PM

Dang how are you so lucky to bum around so much!? :P

That was probably one of the best trip reports I've seen. Its great cause I did a similar trip this summer for a month, driving down to Los Cabos.
