BRRR...WINTER IS HERE!

Pompano - 12-11-2009 at 07:39 AM

Yikes! It's just 54 degrees this morning in Coyote Bay...brrrrr...throw another log on the fire, babe.

Those gulls sitting on my engine are frozen stiff...I beaned one with a clamshell and it never moved.

If you're planning a holiday in Conception Bay...best pack some really warm pants & sweaters for these chilly nights and early mornings.

Yesterday we were going to spend the day fishing outside the Bay...south of Pt. Conception...but IT GOT TOO COLD!..I chickened out when that first cold spray hit me. We did a 180 back to the house and to brew hot toddies, then tacos. Not such a bad deal at that...;)

Tomorrow we may snowboard in the hills....

shari - 12-11-2009 at 07:43 AM

yeah...chilly here too but warmer than over there( still wearing my thongs but put on a long sleeve T-shirt this morning( sorry all you suckers still in canada!!!)...gorgeous huge swell today...woulda got your MOHO real salty!

Russ - 12-11-2009 at 07:51 AM

Beautiful sunrise, Pompano. I'm still in Laguna and although it's beautiful here it ain't home. Hope all the doctor stuff is over by mid week. Please keep those beautiful pics coming.

Pompano - 12-11-2009 at 08:05 AM

I surely will, Russ. We're counting on you to return right quick to keep up your sunrise tradition. Good luck with those doctors!

bajabass - 12-11-2009 at 09:55 AM

Wow, that looks really cold. 45 in Orange this morning. I'd rather me cold in Mexico, than warm here. Hope all goes well Russ! Miss those sunrise shots also!

Timo1 - 12-11-2009 at 10:29 AM

hmmm....We should be in BA but I have a huge contract (highway) starting in Jan.
Maybe the gov. cup this year
I hope I hope I hope

BMG - 12-11-2009 at 10:42 AM

That was frost on our docks the other morning. The electric heaters are running 24/7 to bring the inside of the boat up to a comfortable 59 degrees.

Pompano - 12-11-2009 at 03:12 PM

BMG...Up North my place is covered with snow and the lake is completely frozen over. I expect that, but I would not expect to see frozen docks in your location.

Continued windy and cool here in Coyote Bay. Our visitors feed our yard birds to stay warm.

But...it's now 2:30 pm and it is as hot as it's going to get here in Coyote Bay. Still a cool 62 degrees under my veranda roof. Too cold for me.

Asuncion must be under a blanket of ice. shari, do they sell schnapps for you frozen souls?

It must be lots warmer down on the Cape or Cabo?

Casey67 - 12-11-2009 at 03:55 PM

The weather network page is still listing Cabo as 75 by day, and 70 by night, now and for the next week. Sounds great! It's been around 30 here in Vancouver with a very light dusting of snow.

I'm on the road to Baja sometime between the 25th and Jan 7th. I hope the Coyote Bay cold snap has passed by then.

BajaNuts - 12-11-2009 at 09:18 PM

try 0.3F in the morning and it warms up to 14F during the day.

(rackinbrackinfrickinfracken.....and I'm out working in this schtuff??? I gotta get outta here!)

We have to force the mutts outside in the AM to go p.

Why force them out?

:lol::lol::lol:

funny, El Camote! Our Labs are about 90lbs, we'd need one of these-http://www.dynamic-living.com/product/big-john-toilet-seats/

BUT- one dog knows how to open the doors (we have lever handles, no knobs) and let himself into the house. He also closes the door behind himself. I bet we could teach him to flush in a heartbeat! The old arthritic dog may have a little trouble with the slippery seats...

sorry for the little sidetrack,

back on topic-

BMG- if you guys get a good hoarfrost, you could ALMOST make a snowball! Imagine the local kids having a snowball fight in La Paz! WOW, that would be something to get pictures of!

Señor Pompano, como asi?

Yep, up North it has been minus single digits in the days and minus double digits in the nights. Made the switch to number one diesel a few weeks ago, Two more days to fill that darn muzzleloader tag, then shut er down for the winter and al sur voy en friega.

Hey! ¡Hola, Don Jorge! Bien gracias, ¿y tú?

¡Cuánto tiempo! amigo. Things are finer than frog hair down here.

Si, #1 diesel from now til thaw-time is the rule Up North. Don't lose your topknot. You're half-Dakotan now, amigo - de cuerdo y loco todos tenemos un poco. Salud!

Can't say I miss that sub-zero ND winter cold...brrrrr. I remember it all too well.

ABOVE. I recall winter 1974, ice-fishing on Lake Sakakawea when we were caught in a sudden blizzard. Had to spend 4 days in my fish-house at temps so low that propane outside would not gasify, but just laid in the tank's bottom as a liquid. Now that was maldito frio...damn cold. -44 degrees F (not counting our famous ND wind chill!) 4 days after I took this photo, we busted out the icehouse door, then shoveled through over 5ft of snow to escape..and all you could see of my El Camino was the radio antenna tip.

Okay, all those wanting to move to North Dakota right now, raise your hands!

ABOVE Jorge, you need to convert one of your pickups to get up into the Missouri Breaks..where those big muley bucks hang out.

.

Nice nostalgic pic of your spread, George. I remember the last time I drove into your farmyard, it was crowded with whitetail deer.

Buena caza on the black powder hunt. I'd say just lay over a nice fat, dry doe in your shelter belt or slough bottom and bring some tasty, chilpolte-spiced venison sausage to Coyote Bay. We'll sit on my patio and talk of fishing-hunting-senoritas.

Remember, Jorge.. Vamos caza de gansos y patos con Randy y mis amigos en mi casa de pato. The Duck Shack, Randy, and the amigos are waiting for you Up North. We'll decoy some wings come next September-November.

ABOVE Thinking of 'cold'. Here's what my duk shak looks like in summer v.s. winter ....ouch!

That stark cold hurts! Dios que da la llaga, da la medicina!

Typical North Dakota Winter.

Typical Baja Winter

Like the heading of this thread...Brrrr..WINTER IS HERE!

...BUT IT AIN'T THAT BAD!

Bajagypsy - 12-15-2009 at 05:46 AM

Man, I really can't imagine doing that one.. I'm talking in a higher voice after just watching that video :lol: .. and you folks live in it full time, you should get a special payment from the Canadian Government for hazardous duty..

Drive slow getting down, as I would be "punching it" to get away from that cold.. makes my feet ache just looking at it....

Would say keep warm, but you folks don't even know your in weather that most Governments would ask for International help with under such extreme climactic conditions.. can you imagine London at -43º with 35 mph winds...

Does Shari go back up every year to hit the "old swimming hole" and let Juan wet a line?:lol:

Have always liked the Canadians sense of humor about things in general, they are a fun lot in my experience.. you just have to watch out as some of the things they will do, ahhhhh... others would not..
