It sounds like salsa/afro cubano with a bit of a rap touch.
It's Cumbia

I Googled them and they are from Mexico; a combination of Musica Banda and Quebradita. This originated and evolved in the 1990s.
I was surprised. I thought "Cuba" too, but the costumes and the settings are definitely not Cuba. I then thought maybe Puerto Rico and that it was
probably filmed in Miami.
Until the 1990s Mexico didn't have a native sound like this. This sound, with that type of percussion is definitely borrowed from Cuban or Puerto
Ricano Salsa, Merengue, and derived from Afro Cubano.
As a trumpet player, I lived and played music in San Miguel de Allende. Our band, Los Downbeats, was put together by a gringo Jazz piano
player/teacher from L.A. He was the piano instructor at the Conservatorio in Mexico City and took his best students and formed the band. They settled
in San Miguel and that is where I found them. I sat in with them and ended up working with them for almost three years in Club Mama Mia's. We toured
Mexico, as well and recorded in the Universidad in D.F. We played lots of Salsa and Jazz, and we also sang in Spanish. We had people up on the big

Sorry, but...
There's no Cuban influence here... It's Cumbia, plain and simple. A subtle difference for sure but different nonetheless.
Cumbia has evolved into what's now being called South American Salsa.
It ain't Salsa. No clave. Paula - 12-18-2009 at 09:41 PM

Does Miami have hills? There was a mountain in the background of one of the shots....either an island or the mainland. Also, I think this was shot
somewhere where tanning salons are not common. I'm not used to seeing such pasty looking girls in bikinis.shari - 12-19-2009 at 07:36 AM
yup Dave nailed it...definately cumbia and my favorite dance music...sheesh, had to put my coffee down and dance a bit.
I thought it kinda looked like Acapulco...I've seen this band before ....great dance band....hmm...pretty interesting white crotches...a new fad
perhaps?
Interesting cultural note...mexicanos love pasty chicks...white bods are sexy here and gueras (pale mexicanas... rarely go out in the sun as they dont
want a tan)jeans - 12-19-2009 at 11:08 AM

So I should scrap this brilliant biz idea I had to open a chain of tanning/spray-tanning concessions? I was going to hire Fishbuck as customer service
