This spring we may be getting a influx of cash to do the landscaping around our house & guesthouse, so we are on the lookout for a reputable
& experienced crew that can do laja stone around our home. Would prefer people that do this for a living with references. It will be a challange

There's nothing in the Yellow Pages under Landscaping. I don't think that word translates.
There are a few "Gardners." Five, to be exact. Going by the largest add, the most serious one is:

In Descanso Valley, near Primo Tapia (Cantamar), Baja Norte and I remember that they said that they had locations to the south.
Nice family, they are very knowledgeable; we have bought plants and hired them to do landscaping work over the years.

Jan: I think I know the viviero you are talking about, is it right on the side of the 1 towards the ocean? We will stop by there sometime for sure!

astrobaja---I'm your man! I have been landscaping AND going to Baja for 30 years and understand the San Pedro Martir area fairly intimately....only
problem is I live in Texas now! Waaaaahhhhhh. We'll be heading to the SPM in June however---could stop by and at least check out the site---keep

The largest Vivero I am aware of in the area is in the town of Guadalupe in the valley. Right on the town side of the long bridge going into town

Dennis: yep thats a BIG one, I'm pretty sure most other smaller viveros in Enseanda get their stock from them. We found tons of really nice roses (25

I've worked with all kinds of stone but laja doesn't ring a bell--maybe I know it by another name. I've done lots of stone pathways though!
I was asked to do part of the landscaping for the Diamante Del Mar golf course in El Rosario but I declined since I was kind of against the project

Here's my back steps/patio I built here in Fort Worth(with Oklahoma flagstone.....). Since I can't find oxidized granite boulders out here and I
wanted the rustic look of the granite rock on the east side of the SPM I just made these myself out of concrete and then stained them....yeah I miss

flagstone can be obtained locally? One alternative is to do stamped concrete like what you did and then stain it. The other thing is we get sub zero
temps here during winter so which is the most durable method? Be nice to do natural stone but I think very few people in Baja norte know how to do

I always go with natural stone when possible---and especially when you live in a place like you do!!! It just looks better... ....with the sub-zero
temps you have to make sure you have a good layer of non-expansive well draining base material---ie road base, gravel, sand. Otherwise the
freezing/thawing will allow ice to break up the flagstone work...and I think you may have some fairly expansive soil being in a valley, even though
its mostly granitics there.

The vivero I am talking about is NOT on the ocean side of the highway. It is on the east side of the old free road, about one and one-half miles
south of Primo Tapia/Cantamar, just after you pass the dunes (Los Medanos) and cross the bridge over the Descanso River. There is a small market
there on the old highway with a sign "Pluma Roja". You need to go left onto the dirt road and U-turn, essentially reversing your direction to head
north and the entrance to the vivero is on your right within about 150 feet from turning off the paved highway
This is a VERY LARGE property with many very tall, large potted palms and trees, besides the many other thousands or so potted plants; it is easy to
locate, once you start looking for it.
