Bring cash. The interest rates are scarey. In this area, a lot Mexicans buy their new cars in Chula Vista for that reason.
The new cars in Mexico won't have smog equipment from the factory so importing it to the states is out. That might be a consideration for the future.

Yeah...DF, of all places in the world, they should be mandatory.
My info is second hand, from a Ford dealer in Chula Vista.
They also mentioned their Mexican clientele and how most of them come to shop with about half the price of the vehicle in their pocket. That is generally how they do business at dealerships below the border, accumulate a bundle of cash for a down payment to keep financeing costs down. I don't recall the percentages but, they're huge.

I do know for sure that, a few years back, a Volkwagon made in Mexico had no emmission control hardware from the factory.

Probably drive with Ca. plates and drivers licenses. These people arn't taco vendors and have their options and credit. US financing is still much less than Mexico...sometimes free. I got my Jeep four years, zero interest. Other agencies offer six years at zero. Not bad.

I've got to believe that with so many manufacturers assembling cars all over Mexico for export to the US, that the days of building cars that do not meet US emission standards are a thing of the past. Face it. The Chula Vista dealer had a vested interest in saying that buying a car in MX would disqualify it from being able to be registered in the US.

Not all cars are built for export and there are no emission control standards in Mexico. I think cost would be their number one concern. Not that the vehicle may end up in New Jersey.

I tried to buy an Escape Hybrid at the Rosarito Ford dealer and they can't sell them in Mexico. They are made in Mexico- but only for export out. The Rosarito Ford dealer could import one from Chula Vista for me at sticker price plus the import fees. When I do bring my hybrid in to the Rosarito dealer for even minor service- they ask to keep it the whole day so they can train their mechanics on it. I think mine is the only one they have seen.
