B. Asuncion or S. Rosalia? (Part 2)

fishbuck - 12-24-2009 at 01:56 AM

Okay. I'm home and off work for 11 days.
I should probably stay home, rest, go to the gym, etc.
But I'm getting that wild feeling.
Maybe I'll leave on Christmas morning and drive about 2 days south.
Can someone in each location please give me a fish and weather report?

Hook - 12-24-2009 at 06:54 AM

Wind in both areas for the next 2-3 days. Probably less wind in BA. Cold air has settled in.............but you know that. It's the same air as where you live.

Another Pacific front is predicted give a chance of rain and wind after Christmas to all these locations.

Others can give you fish reports.............but they wont matter much if you cant get out on a boat.

BajaWarrior - 12-24-2009 at 07:33 AM

JUST GO!!! Some days will be windy, some days calm. Some days will be cold, some days warm. GO!

Otherwise, you'll be on the couch wishing you had gone...

shari - 12-24-2009 at 07:40 AM

yeah...weather went for a crap here this week...dang...today is gorgeous though....lots of snowbirds waiting to fish after santa has his way with us.

You'll want to be here for the big New Years Bash though...dont miss it! bring your dancing shoes amigo...and one of those yummy smoked hams.

Pescador - 12-24-2009 at 07:58 AM

Bouyweather shows a lot of wind until Sat or Sunday and then things settle down a bit. Fishing has been a little over fantastic and the fish are really big this year. About three days a week is about all the body can handle on these big fish and I start killing bait and throwing it overboard on the third day. Everyone thinks it is a sign of excitement when people grunt on a strike, but it is the anticipation of pulling on that monster that you know is going to hurt for awhile. When we come in at night we look like football players with ace bandages, linament, and we just need someplace to go get a massage in Santa Rosalia. Some of the girls there might be pretty good as they do seem to have strong hands to go with the large adams apples, hairy legs, and size ten pumps.

sounds like a post Xmas present for Sr Fushbuck! i mean the fishing part!!!:light:

I have to drive to Ensenada tonight for X-Mas with my wife's family, and be back Saturday for work. If I had your time Fishbuck, I'd be hitting the border at 6am, and in Santa Rosalia some where around 6pm. Make tracks dude! Like BW said, when you find yourself bored in 72 hours, you will wish you had bailed on O.C.

fishbuck - 12-24-2009 at 03:00 PM

Okay, thanks.
Yeah, the weather reports look good after Monday or so.
My truck is at the shop today getting a new clutch. There goes my $1000 dollars of airplane money.
It has definately been a little cold here in SoCal. But I'm hoping for a few degrees warmer to the south.
If Pescadore isn't pulling my leg about the fish that sounds excellent.
As much as I love massage I think I'll skip the one in S.Rosalia.
If I work this right I spend New Years in TJ at Adelita's. The girls there have some big parts too.(Hint: It's not the adams apple, hands or feet);)

Atention Snowbirds!

Please go fishing and report back in.

fishbuck - 12-24-2009 at 06:53 PM

I think next Tuesday or Wednesday and later are going to be good weather.
Hey Pescadore! What days are best for the tide?
This is tough! Looks like I'll still be making my decision at the gas station in Vizcaino.
:?::lol:

woody with a view - 12-24-2009 at 08:03 PM

geez, dude!

so many questions.... just go!

you're starting to sound like the damsels you're planning on "courting."

:dudette:"should i? i KNOW it'll be good. but will it be WORTHY of my reputation?":dudette: HELLS YA IT'LL BE GOOD!

next time you surface it better be to gasp for air! there's always fishing if the wind dies down....

k la va "ya" bien!

fishbuck - 12-24-2009 at 08:18 PM

Okay Woody! Ha ha...
I'm just trying to catch a nice fish man!

fishbuck - 12-24-2009 at 08:26 PM

Hey Woody!

I guess you can't see just how cool this trip is!
I have figured out that there are 2 places almost exactly the same distance away, that can have really good fishing... depending on the weather. 1 on the Pacific and 1 on the Cortez.
And... I don't have to make a decision until I'm at the Vizcaino Pemex!
Which is 2 days drive. So that is when I will know if the weather and fishing are good. And each spot is about 2 hours from Vizcaino.
Jeez... do I have to spell it out for you!;)

SAVVY! Merry Xmas, Bud!

Bajahowodd - 12-24-2009 at 09:07 PM

Gawd! Go to Vegas, already. If you can't decide about where to go in Baja, I hear that Cabo Ron has a futon.:P

fishbuck - 12-24-2009 at 09:21 PM

Well, Bajahowadd, Like I was saying... it's all about the fish!
Fishing is part science and part guestimation.

... it only about the fish!!!

PS: It helps if your friends tell you when the fishing is wide open and the weather is good! Because then you call haul tail down there and...

......Catch The Fish!!!!!!!!!!!!
:yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes:;D

Pescador - 12-24-2009 at 09:51 PM

Tides are killer good from the 27th on, weather looks great for the 27-30. The only problem is Rigo and I are full through the 29th. We had a spot on the boat but my daughter came down until the 29th.
I have to take her to the airport in Loreto on the 29th and that looks like a killer day, so maybe we can work out something. Wind kicks back up on the 31 st for sure.

fishbuck - 12-24-2009 at 10:38 PM

Looks like I'll need my own boat because I'm bringing my son Max. I'd love to fish with you but is there another good captain if you and Rigo are unavailable?
The earlist I can get there is the 27th. Maybe fish 28-30.
So yeah, the 29th looks perfect.

acadist - 12-24-2009 at 10:38 PM

My 2 cents is go further to La Paz......look at my report from last week, Tuna, Dorado, Pargo Lisa and even saw some Marlin

fishbuck - 12-24-2009 at 10:47 PM

I'm sure La Paz will be good. And I do love fishing from Muertos Bay. But not enough time.
The Fishbuck fishing philosophy is only go as far as necessary to catch fish.
I love it when the fish come to SoCal in the summer. Cattle boat here I come!
Never pass up big yellowtail! It doesn't get much better!

Bajaboy - 12-25-2009 at 12:06 AM

Hey Bucky-c-ckfights at the Concha on the 26th! Come on down for yet another reason to party.

Russ - 12-25-2009 at 06:24 AM

If it's too windy and you want to explore come by Punta Chivato and I'll take you all around in my UTV. Maybe surf fish too. Got a camper that'll sleep 3. Drive to the fence, Right to the water, house on the far left.

Pescador - 12-25-2009 at 08:07 AM

Actually, Fishbuck, that should work well, since my daughter is here, Rigo could go with you guys and that would work well. Looks like weather and tide is great.

Until you have pulled on some of these November/December yellowtail there is no comparison. I have fished both areas extensively and there is no competition, at all.

Russ, I came by the other day to try to catch you but you were gone. We rode 4 wheelers from San Bruno to Chivato on both roads, and they really took a hit. We also did the outside of Bahia Concepcion last Saturday which was a good 70 mile trip. We need to get a trip planned now that I have a new 4 wheeeler.

fishbuck - 12-25-2009 at 02:47 PM

Well hopfully the weather is right.
Packing today. Don't need much. It's a short trip just for the fishing.
Probably stop at Turners Outdoors Saturday morning and then go!
How are you guys fishing down there Pescadore.
Dropping jigs or bait? Trolling?
What should I bring. I have 1 trolling rod with 50lb and a Shimono 2-speed. Think I'l buy another for Christmas.

Haven't been to Chavato for maybe 15 years. Use tp fly in to the ''Old" Hotel.
Wasn't many houses there then.
You near the runway?

First place south of the runway on Shell Beach. The hotel is now $300/night min. But it is beautiful. New owner is BAD! But he still gets at least one guest a week:smug: There are around 400 homes here now most on Shell Beach. But only a few full timers.

fishbuck - 12-25-2009 at 09:15 PM

400 houses!? Whoa baby!
I don't think there was more than a dozen houses last time I was there! Maybe 15.
And the hotel was $55/night. And it was more beautiful. And the owners were very cool.
How's the runway and fishing these days?

I got here in '92 and Bill Alverado had just been booted out by the ejido. From there the hotel & restaurant went down hill (surprise!). The ejido sold it to an Italian who has spent a ton of money and it is a first class place now.
Fishing also in nothing like before. There are a few pangeros still trying to make it with hand lines but most have changed to nets so very slim pickings now for the sports fisherman. From the shore you'll be lucky to get anything to take home. The good news is it is still a wonderful place and the runway is in great shape. The road in is still ugly but passable in a 2x4. There is a rumor that the camp beach maybe fixed up and open to camping again.

fishbuck - 12-26-2009 at 12:40 PM

Sorry I missed the boat this morning.
I hope those guys find the fish!
I'm still planning to roll out of here today so please keep the reports coming.
I should make it to SanQ by this evening and some place fishy by Sunday afternoon.

msteve1014 - 12-26-2009 at 01:59 PM

Shari, What is the afternoon report? We got yellowtail down here in L.B., but the little boat won't go out far enough for tuna in December.

shari - 12-26-2009 at 02:42 PM

the boys are back and looked long and hard...saw lots of dolphin action but no tuna...dang...lots of bonita for smoking though.

Fishbuck, what kind of fish are you looking for??
Bob H

fishbuck - 12-26-2009 at 04:49 PM

Okay Shari. Thanks for the report.
Looks like I won't leave until tomorrow (Sunday) morning. And my son decided he's not going too.
Oh well I can travel a bit quicker alone. I'm a little disappointed.
The weather got good up here. It was overcast but is now clear and almost warm. No wind.

woody with a view - 12-26-2009 at 04:51 PM

WARM? its overcast, calm and cold in OB. surf is gonna get large tomorrow and monday...

fishbuck - 12-26-2009 at 05:17 PM

Yeah it was like that here most of the day.
Late afternoon sun with no breeze so it feels warm if you stand in the right spot.
Big swell coming in?

woody with a view - 12-26-2009 at 05:22 PM

big. double overhead, give or take....

msteve1014 - 12-26-2009 at 07:39 PM

We are looking offshore tomorrow in the big boat for tuna and larger yellowtail. Report tomorrow afternoon from La Bocana.

fishbuck - 12-27-2009 at 02:58 AM

Good luck. I hope you find them.

Pescador - 12-27-2009 at 03:02 PM

Well, it was a little slow and rough today but we managed to put 10 in the boat and back in by 11:00. We had 6 over 30 lbs. today so there are some really big fish running right now. Nothing lighter than 60 lb line or they will not make it to the boat.

fishbuck - 12-27-2009 at 08:30 PM

Okay 60 it is!
I've had a few family issues to take are of. But I'm still planning to leave tomorrow afternoon.
I'll stop by Turners and get a fresh spool of 60lb mono. I hope I can get some of those big bait fish and drop over to find a yellowtail.
I can still shoehorn this trip in before I need to go back to work on Jan 4.
If the fishing and weather will hold for a few days!

shari - 12-27-2009 at 08:34 PM

dont forget your dancing shoes for the new year's bash dude! tonight we had a warm up party at Laurieboats casa...ya missed it amigo.

msteve1014 - 12-27-2009 at 08:50 PM

We got tuna 20 miles out of La Bocana. 10 to 20 pounds, and yellowtail, about 25#. Not too much wind, but the swell is picking up.

fishbuck - 12-28-2009 at 12:32 PM

Nice work!

do your livers ever get a break??!!

it's like a non stop party.
i couldn't take it like that anymore.
guess i am a wimp.:lol::lol:
