Okay. I'm finally leaving.
Family issues and truck problems but I am ready after a quick shower!
I'll be in SanQ tonight and S. Rosalia by Tuesday afternoon.
That gives me 2 days to fish and then heard for home.
Sorry B. Asuncion.
I think you will be my Thanksgiving trip next year. Better weather an fishing then.
I can't resist big Cortez yellowtail that require 60lb test line to keep out of the rocks! Wow!

After you've had your fill of YT, why not send something straight to the bottom and see if you can catch something that's better eating than a yellowtail. I "accidently" caught a 13 lb grouper on those seamounts last time I was there. Delicious!

Well, now just ask Fishbuck how the fishing is in Santa Rosalia. He wanted to go for two days but after the first day he was so tired he was not sure he could lift another fish. We had a pretty good day with a lot of fish hitting on the surface with flylined baits. Quite a few hefted in over 35 pounds so all in all a good day

tiomiguel and art found some tuna yesterday which was pretty cool...not big ones but tuna just the same and limited out on yellowtail...happy guys and a nice BBQ'd yellowtail will grace the new years table along with the Burro!!!

Hi everybody!
1st off thank you to Pescador to Rigo. Both excellent fisherman.
Those fish are bigger than that picture really shows. They were awesome. Any fish that can pull off 60lb test line like these fish are incredible!
I'm still in SanQ. It was such a nice day I couldn't leave.
The weather in S. Rosalia was excellent also. I was in shorts and no short. It was perfect.
If you want to catch some nice fish U2U Pescador and he can hook you up with Captain Rigo.
But be ready for really strong fish!

nice fish buck!!!! i have found that the yellows on the cortez seem to fight harder then the ones on the pacific, could be water temps but really dont know.

Primarily, it has to do with where they live. The Sea of Cortez fish live on the reef and know that the reef represents their safety, so they will pull with everything they can muster up to pull back into the rocks. Pacific side fish relate to different structures but are pretty good about getting you wrapped in the kelp if they can find it.
I have caught quite a few Pacific side yellows that went up to 50 pounds and done it with 20 lb line, but the yellows on the Sea of Cortez simply can not be landed with the lighter line.
Fishbuck thought I was pulling his leg until he hooked his first 30 pounder and watched the 60 lb line melt off of his reel when the fish took his first major run.
The other interesting thing is that the fish on the Pacific side feed more on sardines and anchovies and are therefore not quite as fat and oily as the Sea of Cortez fish who feed a lot on squid. Canned fish really show a marked difference but you can even see it with fish that are barbequed too. For sushi, I generally prefer the S of C fish.

I concur with the Cortez Yellowtail Sushimi. Unbelievably good.
I finally got a room at Jardines. I've been trying but they are always full.
Anyway, I was dreaming of sushimi the whole ride from Santa Rosalia to SanQ.
Rigo gave me one beautiful shoulder fillet. I took it to the restuarant and asked for part sushimi and the rest cooked empanozada (breaded and fried).
I ate the sushimi at the bar. It was orgasmic!
I told Jorje "stop the cooking"! Bring me the rest as sushimi!!!
It was a big filet too. But I ate some fried shrimp later too. I was so hungry after fighting those powerful fish!
I brought home 5 fish. That's all that would fit in my cooler. I have had 9 yellowfin and yellowtail in that cooler last summer. But those were "only" 25 pounders.
This time the smallest fish was 30-35 and the biggest 40lbs.
I think we caught like 17-20 fish all that size.
I kept 5 plus the delicious filet. Rigo is a commercial captain and sold the others to the coop.
Rigo gilled and gutted my 5. And we had to cut the tails off so they would fit in my cooler.
I hauled a$$ home and my friend meet me at my place in Cosa Mesa and he is filetting the 5 whole fish now.
These guys love the whole fish and want the heads for soup.
It was an awesome trip. I'm guessing about 15 hours each way.
But as I always say.
This trip was better than my last trip. And that was the best trip ever!
More trip report later!
But I'm very happy to be home!
It about 75 in Costa Mesa when I got home.
Life is good! :cool:

Well, this trip was only a fishing trip. I was in bed by 10pm on New Years. I did drink 5 Jardines Magaritas first.
I did party with some girls I know in SanQ at the bar. But they left and went to the new "Ladies Bar" for New Years.
If I knew I would have gone too. But now I know where it is. :yes:

I had a real difficult time not stopping in Ensenada to see my "girlfriends" there.
I really needed a good massage!
But I had to get my fish home!

And that was only the pre-party....you should have seen the Concha about 3:30am....good band, good people, good beer and tequila.....great time :!:

Good thing there was plenty of Pozole to go around we I finally rolled out of bed.

The weather has been outstanding here too...we've been swimming, snorkeling, surfing, fishing every day...this week is calm seas, hot and sunny days...woo hooo....here is yesterday's beach day...no shirt or shorts!!! just the way we like it...wish you were here.

The chances of me seeing the Concha at 3:30 am are very slim!
Last year I only made it until 2:00 am.
And yes I did notice the bottles of Tequilla were being brought out about then.
No way! :lol:
