Where to buy a water heater

sailgal - 1-3-2010 at 01:44 PM

We lost a 40 gal gas water heater in the hurricane (Mulege)and need to replace it. We also need a small electric water heater. Has anyone purchased either on the way down in Ensenada at Home Depot or know if Santa Rosalia or Loreto have anywhere to buy them? Thanks.

I have a tankless propane model, purchased at Home Depot in Ensenada. They also have the standard tank type.

Home Depot is a complete rip off! Try your local fereteria keep your money local! It'll probably be cheaper "F" the rip off Home depot!

We buy our hot water heaters locally....check Ayala in Sta.Rosalia or the hardware store beside the bank there too. We love our small one that heats up pretty much as you use it and takes less power.

The hot water heaters at Home Depot and definitely not recommended by the local maintenance men and they are higher priced.

Everything is higher priced. It's no longer a secret.
The maintenance men probably don't like HDs water heaters 'cause they're GE and don't break down as often as the Mex-Made "Agua Caliente A Veces" brand.

My heater is a Mexican one and pumps out hot water like a champ........but buy em where you want

Wrong answer Dennis. The name does not carry the GE quality.

My local water heaters have been lasting in excess of 15 years.

I agree with "The Gull"

You can find them in Loreto. I priced one just a few weeks ago, and while I can't remember the exact quote ( I'm in Sacramento ), it was reasonable. Maybe $50.00 more then lugging one from up north.

You are probably on city water which is much cleaner than the Pila water we get here. I flush mine occasionally to get rid of the built-up mineral deposits. Calcium comes out looking like rock salt.
Anyway, I don't care. Mine works fine and if it explodes today, I'll have a new one hooked up by sundown. It's not going to ruin my day.

Get a water filter you'll thank me later.

They have Bosch tankless heaters at Costco in Cabo for 3160 pesos.

All I know from my neighbor's grief with tankless heaters is, the more simple the machine, the longer they last. Mexico makes a simple unit and I know people from the states that come down here to buy them because they arn't overloaded with USA restrictions in manufacturing.
My neighbor has a Bosch purchased in the states and if it isn't installed with proper ventilation, proper this and that, it just quits working. Really tempermental.

monoloco - 1-3-2010 at 03:56 PM

The ones that they are selling at Costco are simpler than the ones they sell in the states. My neighbors just installed one and they love it. It has electric ignition so there is no pilot light and it puts out way hotter water than the Kruger that it replaced.

We bought our last Water Heater at the Home Depot in Ensenada. Its working fine and its been a year. You will go through more water heaters in Mexico. They said that this one is designed to take the water. So far - so good

We have a Paloma tankless water heater that we have been using for almost 20 years and it still works.

water heater

mulege marv - 1-4-2010 at 07:28 AM

you can buy them here in mulege at the hardware store accross fron the laundry mat. they keep them in the warehouse up the spiral stairs.

good luck

shari - 1-4-2010 at 07:48 AM

something to consider...power is cheap so we all go electric here but the good thing about buying local is that if the element burns out if by chance there is no water in the tank and ya turn it on...the local hardware store carries the replacement element so you just change it.
