Central/Northern California Camping Spot

I visited an unusual camping spot just south of Los Banos/Santa Nella (Hwy 152) on Hwy 5.

It is called Mercey Hot Springs (www.merceyhotsprings.com) and it is about 12 miles west of Hwy 5. It has a natural mineral springs (106 degrees at the source), camping, small cabins and an RV camping area.

The area is desolate (like some parts of Baja sans cactus), runs on solar and wind power with a recycled cooking oil diesel generator. It is off the grid, spottly cell phone service with a satellite internet connectlion.

Cabins rent for $60-70 per night, tent camping is $20 per person--a bit pricey, but worth the experience. It is about 1200 feet and above the fog line in the winter.

Seems like a good stop for all you Baja lovers.

This place is very cool. You have to pony up a little but in the winter when there is a little ice on the ground....... man, nothing like slippin' into those tubs and finding that little bit o' peace.
