Windy Bahia Santa Maria Trip

Borregoman - 1-6-2010 at 05:26 PM

Wind in the San Felipe area in December??? LOL.... During our entire stay, 12/23 to 1/4 I think the wind died down on one day...the day we left...but hey, it was still a wonderful time. The kite surfers sure enjoy the bay during this period!

I am constantly amazed on how much progress is being made on the highway down from Mexicali, not to mention south of Puerticitos! Although I don't quite see the justification of a flyover at the Ensenada interchange...

I also noticed how much the sand bar has shifted since I was last there in late may. It is becoming dangerously close to possibly closing off the entrance to the small bay that fills up during high tides. It seems to be curling in on itself. One day the water might be a bit farther walk then it is now.

Cheers

Windy trip indeed...

We were down from 12-18 to 12-23 and 12-26 to 1-3.

First half of the trip was mild, but light rain one day. Second half WINDY!! One warm day was Monday the 27th. We took a drive into town and explored Campo Bahia Cantu (between the two coast mountains, very pretty), plus drove out several north campo roads and then all the way to the furthest north campo. Very unfriendly these days with all of the fences that have gone up... Drove to Huerfanito Island on the new highway south of Puertocitis, took the dogs along, windy day.

We also were at Bahia Santa Maria 1-1 to 1-4...

This photo (1-2-10) shows the wind surfers and the tip of the bay curling around almost to close itself off (it did this very same thing in 1978):

We have experienced more wind this season than the previous eight. Really makes us appreciate the calm days.

I think some dude in Mexico city is fascinated with the flyovers. Same thing where Mex 1 and Mex 19 split South of La Paz. As if there's so much traffic.....
