I am going to be moving a friend and I was wanting to get a heads up on what the rentals costs or who rents moving trucks. Any info would be great

Welcome to The BajaNomad!

We have a tough crowd here. What they are trying to tell you is, if you expect help, you have to help by supplying what your plans are. i.e. Where to where? How far down Baja; how much of a load; what are you importing.

Do as much of the legwork yourself by calling truck rental agencies. Be sure to find out if you can take their truck across the border and what is required; insurance, etc.

Then people on this board will be more helpful by giving their personal experiences.

thanks guys...i was just wanting to get a direction to go in.

DENNIS - 1-7-2010 at 04:42 PM

Oh well...we just have to fill in the blanks.
If you are moving friends across the border in a southern direction, the truck is only one of your obstacles. Perhaps the smallest one.
The others are

Are you for real???
This is a site about Baja. Did you know that?
Are you intending to move your "friend" to Baja?
My friend Lee lives on the corner of Jardine's and Old Mill roads. When I was visiting I saw a for rent sign for some little apartments on the property. It looked okay and I doubt if it cost much. Lots of Americanos in the area.
Nice place. A little dusty but nice.
Does that help at all?

BCoregon - 1-7-2010 at 04:49 PM

i am just driving i was trying to help her get the info for trucks and stuf...I am just going to be the driver

tripledigitken - 1-7-2010 at 04:54 PM

Where does she currently live?

Where does she want to move to in Baja?

that should get this going.

Ya know, this doesn't make much sense.
But there is a company called "U-haul". Maybe you've heard of it?
I think they rent trucks. Maybe you could call them.
Does that help at all?

DENNIS - 1-7-2010 at 04:55 PM

Troll Alarm is starting to buzz a little.

toneart - 1-7-2010 at 04:56 PM

nbacc - 1-7-2010 at 05:03 PM

U-haul will NOT let you drive them in Mexico.

BCoregon - 1-7-2010 at 05:04 PM

ok basically..... what I need to do to drive a truck from the US into Mexico with out getting tossed in prison for what ever?

I was assuming you all would know what I was trying to find out...I am sorry i didnt explain it better. I am truly grateful for any help i get.

fishbuck - 1-7-2010 at 05:06 PM

There is a place in San Diego that rents cars and light trucks for Baja. I don't know the name of it but I'm sure someone on here can help. They may also have bigger trucks or know who does.
Anyone?

nbacc - 1-7-2010 at 05:08 PM

When we were looking to move our stuff to San Felipe there was no rental agency I could find that would let me drive in and then out and return it inthe US at the place where I rented it. We bought a haul trailer, took our stuff to SF, came back to Calif and sold it. For us it was the best way!!

BCoregon - 1-7-2010 at 05:22 PM

she is going to be taking over an orphanage and buying a house....I am not sure where exactly at she will be living. I am just trying to help her out.

bajaguy - 1-7-2010 at 05:30 PM

It would really help if you could look at the responses to your question and get the answers from her, then we can provide assistance and or advice

fishbuck - 1-7-2010 at 05:31 PM

These guys might have trucks:

tripledigitken - 1-7-2010 at 05:33 PM

Find out location, as that will be a factor in the advice you are asking for.

Also, can you estimate just how much stuff, and what type of stuff, she is trying to move? If she is thinking about furniture, you might advise her to buy in Mexico. If she is buying a house there are avenues that will allow you to bring down household items duty free. Others with more experience than I can fill in the details.

It's complicated.
