Right Bajaguy - my point was different. Anyone who has an existing SENTRI pass can log on to the GOES system and submit an application for the Trusted Traveller program that links up to your passport - it is FREE. It normally costs $100 or more, but SENTRI people get it for free. One hitch, your passport (unexpired) needs to be part of your GOES file. If that is the case, in less than two weeks, your GOES account will automatically update your passport records and notify you on the GOES webpage that you are good to go.

If you have a SENTRI pass and you had to get your passport renewed or replaced since you got your last SENTRI card, then you have to go to the OTAY office and present your valid passport. For people like that, you still apply on line with GOES, but instead of GOES sending you a confirmation about two weeks after your application, they will notify you that you are approved, but you have to come in with your current unexpired passport for them to enter it into your file. No appointment needed.

I just researched the use of Global Entry for use through the Registered Traveler program that was used for domestic flights at about 20 airports around the US. The software company who ran the TSA approved program went bankrupt last June and noboby in the government picked up the ball.

The Global Entry portion of the Trusted Traveler program is still functioning quite well at all US Domestic airport points of entry for international flights.

Since it is free for US- Mexico SENTRI folks who have a valid US passport in their SENTRI file- why not go for it?

If you ever got dumped off your plane along with 1000 other passengers from other flights of various cultures and tried to weave your way into the correct line only to find a CBP employee one hour later that makes TSA look like Einstein, then you would pray to interface with a kiosk.

Sounds good. I guess it has something to do with distance and time zones, but it always seemed that every time my little 737 arrived at LAX from Cabo, a half dozen 747s from Asia had just beaten us in to the terminal.

After reading the post the on Tuesday I applied as I was getting ready to add a new car to our pass. Was approved one day later for the global entry card. Can take care of everything with one trip to Otay!
Now I have a good reason to book a trip to cabo to try out the new card!
