What was the problem ?

capt. mike - 1-9-2010 at 08:16 AM

notam not removed.
until Mexico city removes it and DGAC issues the filing clearance to all airport comandancias, the status is quo.

Doc needs to be able to provide details otherwise it is simply discussion.

US registered AC need to be vigilent about where they land or risk quite a Mexican hat dance.....and i mean as in pass the hat...:lol::lol:

There were planes flying in and out over the holiday.

Capitano,.......If Abraham (Doc.) says it's open, it IS open. Ask anyone on this board from Bahia........There is no one that I trust more. He didn't give me more details, just what I quoted.

At the risk of having their plane confiscated, you can understand why BBP (Baja Bush Pilots) members are cautious on this issue. If Doc could somehow get the San Felipe airport officials (who BBP trusts) the official opening details, that would probably end this back and forth stuff...

capt. mike - 1-10-2010 at 11:07 AM

sorry.

Doc is a great guy and all.
but the facts are that the issue remains open.
this is covered in depth on BBP and Claudia calls Mexico city direct to get her data.

trust me - planes may very well be using it currently, but that doesn't mean it is legally operating. That's the charm of mexico....selective enforcement....
ICAO rules the roost and Mexico is signatory.
Notams have official and legal circumstances affecting liability and rights.
when the notam is amended the status will be official - and may result in re-opening or staying closed or something entirely different and confounding.

i won't be taking my valuable aircraft there no matter who says it's ok until the jurisdictional authority says it is ok.
but hey....that's just me.

We were parked there Christmas week and never saw the military or had any issues. Others that did talk to the military were not advised of the airport being closed or told to leave. San Felipe wouldn't let us file to there but I understand others will. That really doesn't matter unless BOLA is your only stop since the farthest point of your trip is where you file to. I guess it's back to normal since the airport permit is actually several years expired.

So airmech, since BBP members like Capt. Mike are waiting for San Felipe to give the green light, how does San Felipe get the okay?

It will reopen when all the proper pockets and official forms are filled.

well put. and that's the real deal.

Bahia Totugas has been "closed" for years but lots of people go in there.
SF would not file me to there when i had to drop a boat capt. for a rescue some years back. so i filed to GN and they "allowed" me to continue.
no rhyme... no reason.....it's just their way.
