Mexico cartel stitches rival's face on soccer ball

drzura - 1-8-2010 at 08:35 PM

MEXICO CITY – The body of 36-year-old Hugo Hernandez was left on the streets of Los Mochis in seven pieces as a chilling threat to members of the Juarez drug cartel. A note read: "Happy New Year, because this will be your last."

To drive home the point, the assailants skinned Hernandez's face and stitched it onto a soccer ball.

The gruesome find, confirmed Friday by Sinaloa state prosecutors, represents a new level of brutality in Mexico's drug war, in which torture and beheadings are almost daily occurrences.

Hernandez was taken to Sinaloa after being kidnapped Jan. 2 in neighboring Sonora state, in an area known for marijuana growing, said Martin Robles, a spokesman for Sinaloa prosecutors. The motive for his abduction was unclear.

His torso was found in a plastic container in one location; elsewhere another box contained his arms, legs and skull, Robles said. Hernandez's face, sewn onto a soccer ball, was left in a plastic bag near City Hall.

Too bad for the good people of Mexico

I think Mexico has become such a crap hole nowadays. If people think otherwise, they have their head in the sand.

woody with a view - 1-8-2010 at 08:41 PM

Sorry I do not hang out with an Harvard educated people here. Just observations of my trips to Baja since I was eight years old. Dont get me wrong, we definately have our problems here in the good ole USA, but Mexico is close to becoming a failed state. Tourism has gone to crap, the gillnetting of the SOC: how do the good people of Mexico make a living?

They come to my house, honk their horns and sell me things. So far they are hangin in there.

The Gull - 1-9-2010 at 07:29 AM

Notice that this is a threat to a cartel in the area. Could it be OTHER than another Cartel making the threat?

Think of the possibilities that some group of locals decided to hack up a few drug dudes. The variations on that theme could be intriguing.

This wouldn't happen in the US because soccer is not that popular and an NFL football doesn't work as well.

Wilson....
and who recalls that the great and intrepid Carlos Fiesta carried a decorated pumpkin (Elvira?) with him on his epic journey circumnavigation of the Baja? Sort of a defacto "Wilsonesque" companion of sorts.
the day finally came he had to abandon her to the sea....:O:O:(

If Badminton and ping-pong were the national sports- the narcos would bring a whole new meaning to "shuttlec-ck" and a new dimension to table tennis.

I agree, how sick, but I did laugh. I hope one of these days the common Mexican and others will be so revolted by the actions of the Narcos that they will react against the Narcos and eliminate them one way or the other.

LancairDriver - 1-9-2010 at 09:43 AM

This could give Tony Soprano new ideas, he doesn't like to be out done.

I wonder where and how they would start that process. It would be kinda like Joe Afghani going after the Taliban. A pretty tall order.

El Camote - 1-9-2010 at 09:51 AM

Do the narcos have Hannibal Lector working for them now? Talk about life imitating art.

Wilson. that is funny:lol::lol:

By going in the drug trade to supply the USA with their sick entertainment. Old adage: You go where the money is.

I KNOW IT'S SICK!
