Is there something I'm not getting here? Or is it just coincedence? I get the impression that "monkey" has some meaning I'm just not understanding.
My g/f in TJ calls me monkey. There is a bar in PV called Cheeky Monkey. There is a monkey on the cultural center in Ensenada. It seems I have seen

It means, silly or cutie, in an endearing way, like dear, or honey, there is nothing derogatory about it generally, though you might call your dog
chango or a child or in this case, I guess a boy friend or love interest. Usually I have heard it used only in the house and not so often in public
except on occasion.

Yes, "monkey" in English. You see she is my little mexican hairless (eat your heart out guys, the only hair on this girl is on her head ) so
she plays with my arm, leg and chest hair and calls me "mi monkey"

Monkey = Mono and Mono = cute so she could be calling you cute. Sounds to me like she is just calling you hairy! Does she ever call you a "peluche"?
