Los Olivos in San Q closed for the season?

oladulce - 1-13-2010 at 03:56 PM

We pulled in to Los Olivos RV park (next to Jardines) last week (Jan 6) , our way north and there was a closed sign across the entrance.

We're heading back down again tomorrow with trip #2 of our worldly posessions and would love to know if they will be closed for the season, or if this is just an occasional thing. Since it's about the end of the line for camping options in San Quintin which is often the winter driving cut-off spot before dark, it would be great to find out if they will be open.

There's no email contact on their website and I don't have access to a phone to make international calls. Any info would be helpful.

You might want to e-mail Carmen at Jardines and ask if she knows what's going on. She has always been immediately responsive to my e-mails.

Marita-LosOlivos - 1-13-2010 at 05:14 PM

Los Olivos is open. Welcome! The day you happened by, we were out of town and the caretaker had to run some errands. Sorry! Margarita Melville

Here is the e-mail to Los Olivos

Oh, are they Mexican? Their nationality or ethnic background have no bearing on my wishing them success :smug:

I see everyone who loves Baja or offers good services to us Baja lovers as the same... HUMANS.

Hi Marita!
It's Mike from Lee's house.

TonyC - 1-14-2010 at 05:34 AM

Hi Marita, how the fishing been? I want to share a boat with someone, can't afford to charter one on my own. If you have a hookup please let me know. I'll be in town till wed, maybe thursday next week...getting tomorrow SQ friday.

Did that crook you used to work for pay you what he owed you? What a piece of work that freaken guy is.

Marita-LosOlivos - 1-14-2010 at 02:04 PM

Hi Mike how are you? When are you gonna be back in SQ?

Tony, how have you been? The fishing has been ok at the moment. I can get Juan Cook to take you out fishinig. He has a 26 foot super panga. The cost is $250.00 dlls per day. I will see if anyone wants to go out with you. It was nice and warm with no wind these past few weeks and now all of a sudden it has gotten really windy and cold. I hope the wind stops so we get our 70 degree winter weather back. Let me know what days you will want to go fishing and I will contact Juan for you. He is an excellent captain.

HAHAHA.....yeah I got paid some of what I was owed, not much but I guess its better than nothing.

David, sounded like a good suggestion to me.....Guess some people just search for ways to get their panties in a wad.

For those of you who live in Colonia Vicente Guerrero do they still have the Almejero camp west of Colonia Los Papalotes? Also, If you happen run into Alma LeBaron Sr. tell him Anna Mae's eldest son David M says hello! I hope he's still alive. A lady named Celia used to live at the Colonia Los Papalotes and was married to my dad Nephi. Years ago when I stopped by she was still living there just not home.

rts551 - 1-14-2010 at 04:06 PM

I have friends at Costa Brava (col Vicente Guerrero)and I can ask them.. Or U2U DianaT. Her sister lives there.

Umm...it's my parents place, but I think it would of been great if the guard had put up a sign that said he would be back soon.

We are open and we have had LOTS of RV's in the past few days. We are next door to Jardines Baja, hotel/restaurant. Come check us out.;D

oladulce - 1-17-2010 at 09:34 AM

Thank you for responding Marita. We had a relaxing overnight stay on Wednesday. It's a relief to be able to pull up after a long days drive especially when you're towing or hauling a load and can't go exploring for campsites.

Immaculate bathrooms and extra hot showers !

In defense of the cuidadero at Los Olivos, on our previous trip we pulled up after dark when we shouldn't have been traveling anyway so they probably didn't expect anybody to come rolling in.

Thanks again for being there.

An update and changes at Los Olivos campground S.Q

oladulce - 2-26-2010 at 11:31 AM

An update on Los Olivos campground as of Feb 21, 10:

Last week there was a new caretaker at the campground (a nice man from Canada) who said that the park had been sold to a non-profit christian group. They plan to keep a few of the public campsites (for now, at least) and they will be expanding the park for larger groups of kids for religious camping retreats.

They have other plans for a small school onsite and pastor's offices etc.

It sounds like for now you will still be able to spend the night either dry camping or in one of the 4 or 5 full hook up sites but the future may be uncertain for we overnighters. Dang- If it goes away I'll miss this convenient spot and their wonderful clean , hot showers.

Hi Oladulce,

You said you were hauling possesions in your earlier post, how did the importation process go? And at which border? Pay in pesos only?

Thanks, BW

Hello Irene...

My husband Jerry and I first met you and your husband, Jose, a number of years ago, during one of our "must visits" to Posada Don Diego's restaurant. Every time we're in Baja, we always come out, often with many friends in tow. We have always enjoyed the food.... and your Sunday buffet is terrific!

I must admit though, we missed seeing you the last few times we'd paid a visit and thought you may have gone to the mainland.

We'll be back in May, and hope you'll be around. We'll definitely come by for your great food and say hello!

Linda

irenemm - 2-28-2010 at 01:38 PM

Linda,
Thanks you. I should be here all month in May. and will come over the restaurant anytime unless the desserts are in the oven have to finish them first.
Our sunday buffet is pretty good. As you know.
I spend many hours doing reservations and party, catering events.
No I wanted to go and try Ajiji but Jose would not go. His poker buddies are here so here we are. But the real reason the grandkids.
See you may.
thanks again
