Pesos for sale NOT SOLD False Alarm

vgabndo - 1-17-2010 at 01:16 PM

We've been forced to cancel our trip to Baja this year, and I had already bought 12,000 pesos. My rip-off bank CHASE wants 14% to buy them back. I will not pay rip-off CHASE anything I don't have to. If you are traveling down I-5 past Mt. Shasta, California on your way to fish tacos we are only blocks off the freeway and you can have them all for $1000. cash. I don't know the exchange rate right now, but certainly it is as good as you'd do at a casita and will be much more convenient in my experience. Reach me on my cell 530-859-2759 and I'd even meet you downtown if at all possible.

The exchange rate is about 12.6 or so which does not save enough to make the drive to Mt. Shasta from Redidng unless it is a beautiful day (not today...rain and maybe snow there). We are going in March...I will save your phone #. Have a rainy day!!!!!!!!!!! Nancy

today 12.925
that means $1000=12,925pesos

925 pesos gets me fuel to the border

a week ago i got 12.755 at the border
no commission

never buy pesos at an american bank

Vagabundo,

You might as well hang on to them. The value could continue to drop, back down to 10 x 1, you never know. Last summer we didn't sell ours back but hung on to them. The peso dropped and we were ahead of the game $400.
That paid for our fuel plus some.

Stuff that piggy bank and start planning your next trip with $ already in the bank.

Vgabndo,
I would buy them from you if we could figure a safe way to make the exchange. I am in Nevada City, southeast of you. So, it is not on my way. We have severe weather coming in, too. The only thing I can think of is for me to send you a check and you FEDEX the pesos. That is risky, but would probably be safe. You can U2U me with any ideas.

The very best you could get today for your 12,000 pesos at a currency exchange would be $945.10 US and I don't know any place that would give you todays actual conversion rate of 12.6970 without discounting it. Save your pesos and maybe the the peso to dollar will get worse. Chase must have really hit you for a big conversion fee when they sold them to you. I will surely avoid Chase.

Wells Fargo's rate is also really bad. Don't ask me how I know:( You can do better at any atm, or casita.

Border Money??

I don't know about anyone else, but just going to the local "Casa de Cambio" on" Ol' San Ysidro Blvd." is the way to go no matter what time of day or night it is. I'm sure that for a lot of folks that live in the way up north, the bank thing is the way to go. I guess our answer has been solved.

Good luck.

Somehow I'm amazed no one has mentioned the fact that, at any Baja ATM, you can get pesos at a minimum of 12.5 to 1, more likely 12.7 to 1, while you offer them at 12. And which the added trouble of having to get them somehow and carrying them on your person. Maybe $900.00 for the lot may get you somewhere>

Interesting that everyone is looking at this post only against Sunday exchange rates. Wait until Monday or Tuesday when the rate is actualized after the Sat & Sun freeze & the rate will change dramatically. It's ALWAYS lowest Sat/Sun & highest Mon/Tues. I discovered that rapidly converting USD to pesos during construction.

Go easy on vgabndo, he's just trying to find an easy way out of the bind he found himself in through having to delay his trip!

Thanks "Legs"!

Like millions of other seniors, we've fallen on hard times. We'll be fine, but for now that much money is significant.

vgabndo - 1-19-2010 at 03:29 PM

Through no fault of his own, the buyer was forced to back out. The pesos are still available to anyone from up north who wants to avoid the border parking hassle. Make an offer to pick them up for cash only.

bajaumpaw - 1-19-2010 at 09:45 PM

I'll send you a U2U with an offer as I am going to Mexico in a month.

An easy way to find out how much your pesos are worth in dollars at the present daily conversion rate is to go to Google and put "12000 pesos to dollars" in the search block and hit search. It works for dollars to pesos also. Banks and money exchanges then charge percentages for buying or selling pesos.

What size bills do you have? We are leaving Seattle for Baja either this Friday or Saturday and will be driving right past your area. We might be interested in purchasing your pesos. Ron
