11-07 Arizona (Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, Jerome)

In November of 2006, we had a great time helping with the Baja 1000 race and showing Josh some of Baja: http://vivabaja.com/1106

The next year in November, we turned NORTH! I wasn't sure if I knew any other direction to start a trip in... But, it was worth a shot.

We had never been to Hoover Dam or the Grand Canyon, so why not now (in 2007)?

The Hoover Dam tour was very interesting and the whole complex was amazing. A new giant bridge was under construction over the river canyon, south of and higher than the dam... It will allow traffic to cross easily without the backup on the dam... and will be amazing when finished.

We were told about the Grand Canyon Railroad and their hotel/ train/ meal package deal out of Williams, Arizona. That was great! Good price, a fun time and got a good first look at the canyon. We were fortunate to have one of the clearest days of the year, as well.

While in Williams, we heard about the old mine town of Jerome (between Sedona and Prescott)... So, on our way home, we checked it out and had lunch at the recommened 'Haunted Hamburger'. The town is built on the side of a mountain... Many homes and businesses are on stilts!

If you have any questions on any of the photos, just ask!

Jerome is a fun place to hang out at. The new Colorado River Bridge is supposedly scheduled to be completed late this year. It has an interesting history. While the story goes that it was on a wish list dating back two decades, mostly because of traffic issues, what with the road being the primary link between Phoenix and Las Vegas, after 9/11, the security issues became magnified.

Dang David. Where is it you don't go. I travel all over the world but have never been to the Grand Canyon or Jerome. Seen the dam though.

Great photos!

So, What do you think of the Grand Canyon, as a whole?.

I Live just off Hwy 89A 30 minutes from Jerome. Ive driven through it hundreds of times on my way to Sadona only stopped there once to check out the "Ghost town".
Love the Smell comming from the Haunted Hamberger one of these days I've got to stop and eat there.
Right now we are getting close to record rainfall. Snow later tonight

We want to go back and spend more time at the canyon. Baja Angel wants to muleride down to the bottom!

There is a Nomad ('2-tie-dye-4') who lives in Jerome who works at another bar/cafe there... Let me search for her post... Here it is about a festival in Jerome: http://forums.bajanomad.com/viewthread.php?tid=35752#pid3747...
