Anyone know why Dr. Arias' "hotel" was downed and what the future holds?
I heard last year that this vast tract of ejido land had sold. It is now fenced
with chain link and barbed wire.

first API knocks over the gazebo in the town square now this? is the mega marina cruise ship terminal going there now? :fire:

that was to be the site of the new mision hotel. the original owner of the mission hotel put it there and wanted to develop the area but it didn't happen. I hope access to the point remains open for the public.

Cruise ship terminal? Seriously? Even Cabo doesn't have one. And they get tons more cruise traffic. If I recall, the only regular call was a Holland- America ship which itinerary included a call at Topolobampo for a shore excursion into Copper Canyon. And their season was only a few months. What/ who is going to support a cruise ship terminal at Loreto? Just wondering.

Should only be good for shallow draft, flat bottomed cruise ships. :biggrin:

But that wouldn't hold down their way of thinking.

Remember Puerto Escondido ferry terminal. :lol:

The area is fenced (chain link) and gated with a guard house. As far as I know it is still closed. It was my favorite kayak launching spot.

There has been talk of a Loreto cruise ship terminal, but not at El Bajo. As for what will support it, well, what will support the work at Zaragosa, the new hotels, the Ensenada Blanca project, Loreto Bay under its new owner(s) etc.?

The last I heard was that a group of investors from Sonora had purchased the point and wanted to build an eco resort, but then decided to build residences for themselves. But who knows if that is just another fairy tale. It's been fenced off for the past few years, but it gets opened up during holiday periods so that the public has access.

If they have started building, that must mean that they applied for their environmental permits. Does anyone know how to check and see if their permits were approved or posted for review? From what we have been told about the process, the permit applications can be viewed by the public for comment. Does anyone know how to access this informaiton?

each week approved and solicits permits are uploaded. you actually have to read through all of the links or start at a week you think is right around the permit youre looking for.

also the cruise ship terminal that would have replaced the downtown marina was turned down in the park meetings. thank your local captain for that. the same questions of lack of visits by these ships made all us locals ask the same questions. use never added up or came close to costs.

I had my palapa roof replaced in August, and the contractor who did the work had just completed a new palapa on the structure at Doctor's Point. The palapa there, not mine, was done with no nails or any other metal hardware. I did not go out to see it, but saw pictures taken during and after construction and it was beautifully done. I understand that the owner(s) plan to use the property as a private vacation retreat and not a commercial venture.

Thanks Pam - that is very helpful. I looked through 2009 and didn't see any applications for the Drs. point area, although I did find the approval for a friends project. The only other ones that I saw for Loreto were for Fonatur.
