That's not really Jesse in the picture. You see...there was this sit-com on TV and in the cast was a big-lipped Iraqi soup cooker named.........

lizard lips - 1-27-2010 at 04:55 PM

Margie/ Nancy/ Arowhead will you be attending Mayor Torres and Cheif Montero's meeting on security concerns regarding Americans living in Baja at his hotel today in the Maya room at the RB Hotel today?
Please dont send your crack reporter Lois Lane AKA Vivian Stratton.
Thank you-

I'll be there. I'll be the one wearing a Savage nation ball cap and sunglasses in the corner.
Come up and say hello. I'll treat you to a Clamato in the bar afterwards. We can discuss the highlights of his speach and how his boy wonder Ronny will spin this recent crisis that has the potential to drive away future boomers looking at Rosarito as a retirement location.

Maybe that blow hard Harry O will get up and say something.
If he brings up that car break in stuff again I swear I'm going to puke.

Crazy Maggie has opened her board up to comments! Of course she gets to approve them first. I'm not going to meeting. I can never keep my big mouth shut at these things- so better not to go and be deported if what I would say could be a "security alert". I just got my FM3 renewed for the third time- don't want to lose it. But wouldn't that be interesting if they started singling out expat bloggers for deportation.

I do wonder what the Newport Beach Sailing Club has to say about being threatened by Mexico not to issue a "security alert".

You can be sure Torres will have as many people watching the crowd as people watching Torres. I wouldn't try to use a camera and expect not to be quickly confronted.

It's all a propaganda show. They've waited so long after the event that prompted the meeting that the news media doesn't consider it "news" any more. So he won that already.

The real story now is in the blocking of crime news leaving Mexico and the intimidation of the media and sailing club. Maybe a brown-shirt Fraulein from the US media will take notes and report back to Torres. Now that he's intimidated the media he'll likely use them as the cowardly tools they are for not pushing back. Echos of pre-WWII Germany...

Don't underestimate the power of YouTube in 2010 Mexico!

The Mexican gov't freely uses it to broadcast their internal meetings. Everyone sits in their gov't offices and clicks on YouTube links. Without having IT departments and tons of tech-toys, YouTube works well for them and it's free.

I found this out first hand in my recent land concession battle with the Rosarito Municipal crooks. When Mexico City saw visuals of what was going on in my case (from my YouTube video) they sent three PROFEPA inspectors within 5 days! We won and the people who wanted to take part of our concession are hiding from PROFEPA. The FZM line was even moved all the way back to the street based on that video (making the amount of land we have to pay for every year smaller without losing any control over it). Many people here are shaking in their boots now that they have been caught selling FZM land and the buyers are co-operating with PROFEPA to get their money back.

We recently found out the guy trying to fence off and sell our FZM concession works at the Rosarito Municipal Palacio. No wonder he figured out how to pay the back taxes and create a fresh title (not a legal title, but good enough to sell). No wonder no one from Rosarito would respond to us. That's why we bypassed Rosarito and went straight to PROFEPA in Mexico City for help- and it worked.

Always remember- There is no shame in Mexico.

Was the guy prosecuted or does that fall into the catagory of, "Crimes against Gringos are OK as long as no one dies and the US Consulate doesn't have to be notified."

Sounds like a guy in Playa La Mision who got a house that way, started to fix it up then put it on the market, when a serious offer came in he wouldn't/couldn't get them the proper paperwork they wanted to see on the land it sat on...

No gringos involved in this one. Mexicans stealing from other Mexicans. The concession is in the wife's family name. Not too many Mexicans have the financial means to obtain a concession- it's expensive. Most land thieves go elsewhere when a FMZ concession is in place- it was strange for this guy to try to grab, fence and sell it. We also caught him flat-footed with PROFEPA and the YouTube video. Few Mexicans will fight back like we did when there's no profit to be gained from the fight. PROFEPA only told us they know the parties involved and a criminal investigation has begun. They will never let us know the next steps they are taking, it's really none of our business once we won the case and the land was restored to us.

We had our Mexican Attorney over the house the other day. He knows us well for many years (sold us our lot, built our house and represents our family when the need arises). He was brutally honest with me and told me the business values/ethics I have from the other side simply don't exist down here and won't anytime soon. Too much money to be had with little penalty if caught. Mexicans screw each other all the time and say "It's just business, nothing personal". They don't negotiate for things they can take without asking.

Hey, it happens in the states too, have a couple of default judgements that I can paper my garage with.. win in court.. but if the other side has done a good job legally, you may win.. but that about it..

Remember O. J. losing in civil court.. the Goldman's won but what did they get... nada, zip, zero and O. J. was still playing golf in Miami Beach.. his KIDS were getting the money from their Trusts their father (his attorney) had setup .. Yeah, I know he is in jail now, but the Goldman's still haven't gotten a dime... from their judgement

It a game, and that is how it's played... here in the United States and in Mexico too it would appear

noproblemo2 - 1-28-2010 at 03:49 PM

Sounds like an attorney we all should get to know, not to many tell it straight.

Yeah, but in Mexico you never get to the default judgment stage. The legal system is not working with you, like in the US. That is why Woosh's attorney friend is telling him there is no law in Mexico. If you couldn't collect on a default judgment in thw US, it is because you did business with somebody with no assets.

No, I don't live in Mexico, so I don't have those security concerns. I think this is all yours to handle. You bought in Mexico based upon all the BS, now deal with it. Remember the BajaNomad mantra: "Never buy anything in Mexico you cannot afford to walk away from."

There is "law", but white collar crime is off their radar completely. Look how few low-level white collar criminals get fines or jail time stateside- even with a functioning legal system. It's sort of the wild wild west for white collar criminals down here. Always has been. Probably would have stayed that way forever if Americans hadn't started demanding silly little things like title insurance, completion bonds, building inspections and escrows.
