While I was roaming the beaches just North of Punta Chivato looking for a fish that hadn't been scooped up in the nets I came across some Black Brant.
Not a regular visitor here.
One of the beaches I was lucky and had a school of these hang out while I caught and released about 20. So it was a good day. Something eatable would
have been nice but all of my surf rods got a workout. And I'm ready for Asuncion.... still

We caught several of those guys a few weeks ago. The people I met called them pompano (one thought it was a baby yellowtail). What do you think they

The Brandts probably got chased off the norhtern Baja coast by the storm. There are literally 10's of 1000's in SanQ bay.
When I was there at Christmas a panga came in with a bunch.
I asked if they were good. He said the meat had a stong flavor. I asked if it was like dark turkey meat. He said "stronger".
I asked a few other people who said they are very "gamey"

It's a long mouth leatherjack. Use to be several types of Pampano and many different jacks including yellowtail. With the scores of net boats,
shrimpers & seiners the stock are becoming depleted. Also got a couple of these Green Jacks

You have be real careful with those leatherjacks. They'll jab you from above and below.
It seems no matter how careful you are if you catch enough of them you'll get jabbed. Both of us did, even though we knew where the spines were.
