Earthquake?

wessongroup - 2-1-2010 at 07:32 AM

Just thought we had a small tremor, a few minutes ago, around 6:25 a.m. ?

k-rico - 2-1-2010 at 07:34 AM

I'd say it was a "moderate" quake. Shook the house pretty good for a few seconds.

It was a 5.0 31 miles SW of Rosarito

SDRonni - 2-1-2010 at 07:54 AM

Anyone here from Rosarito who can check in?

The Gull - 2-1-2010 at 07:59 AM

Everything is well.

BooJumMan - 2-1-2010 at 08:44 AM

Felt it here in North County San Diego. Very minor here, but first one I've felt in years.

wessongroup - 2-1-2010 at 08:44 AM

Good, thought it was medications, I can get up and go get some more coffee:lol::lol:

Didn't feel a thing here in Rosarito. A 5.0 is pretty much a yawner...

Curt63 - 2-1-2010 at 08:51 AM

I was swimming laps at that time. I didn't feel it, but the lifeguard sitting in the tower DEFINATELY felt it here in Escondido, Ca.

I still have never experienced a quake. Careful on what I'm wishing.

tripledigitken - 2-1-2010 at 08:56 AM

Felt it here in La Mesa as well.

Yep, eating breakfast with the wife and son....we high-fived our 17 month old on experiencing his first earthquake.

Bajajorge - 2-1-2010 at 09:20 AM

You can check out recent earthquakes on the USGS earthquake site. On the east side of Baja Norte, Guadalupe Victoria rock and rolls on just about a weekly basis with 4s, 5s and sometimes 6s.

wessongroup - 2-1-2010 at 09:52 AM

The only earthquake that ever actually got me up and going for the window or door was the Northridge quake in 1994... I heard the snap of wood... and when the wife had new Pergo flooring put in 2007, I saw a crack in the foundation all the way across the dinning room about 14' in length .. and no.. I just told them to cover it with Pergo.. no significant separation, but it was NOT a hair line crack.. and in the garage, all along the bearing wall down the center of the house, the spray-on crap they shoot over the drywall was flacking way from the roof and transitions to other support structures..

I'd go with Woooosh on this one, maybe not a yawn, was typing ,stopped for a moment and included in the email... "we just had and earthquake, no sh*t.. and carried on with the typing.. and I'm gland that was all it was.. would not like to see the "BIG ONE" ..... I'm not set up down here YET.. still have to get the mover to haul a bunch down here if we are going to stay full time.. have some stuff, but, need the tent, stove, have the clothing, sleeping bags.. medication, beer and vodka and Vitamin T.. I will start drinking if we get to that stage... plus we have a potable fire pit to cook on with wood.. and the wife being of true pionering stock must have 50 pounds of rice and beans... each.. no one losses weight around our place :lol::lol:

Just remindered me of a lady I worked with, she is a black lady.. and she was to me attractlivy slim and trim.. but, she did not like her physical apperance... she said "I don't have a big booty" my wife told to come stay with us for just a couple of months.. and we would not have that concern any more.. we have hoped to ask her down for a stay, a great woman.. went back to school while working full time.. and got a degree, adopted a child as no stupid guy saw in her what a wounderful person she was, we both gave recommendation to the State of California on the adoption, she got a little girl and I can't remember how to spell it, it's Swaheally for "Little Star of Hope" I have it written down some place and can't find it right now.. but, would like to afford her the oppourtunity to see Baja.. she has not travled very much.. from Los Angeles County, she grew up in South Central.. hard core area.. I had asked her to go look at some property for me in Ventura County.. she called me from her house that night and asked me "should I take water".. I laughed so hard, she was so sweet.. and thought she was taking off on the Orogen Trail.. still makes me laugh:lol::lol:

Think they are going to have to make up a new category for me.. as I'm not even off topic, I off this world..:lol::lol:

But, it's intended for entertainment and hope all enjoy my sorry old man ramblings..

I enjoy most all of great stuff you folks put, just great..

Funny about the USGA.. have there link.. when there and no reported earthquake, but I was looking as it was just finishing, went back 5 minutes later and still no report.. then I put up the post.. thought may be I was losing it..:lol:

Actually I felt that 1994 Northridge quake when I lived in Carson City. Isn't that some 200 miles away?

wessongroup - 2-2-2010 at 11:49 AM

Might be a bit further than that.. but, that is a bit of a piece from SoCal to feel the quake, no matter what the miles, plus you had a mountain range kinda blocking a little too.. :):)

I felt that one in Carson City also....shook the house real good!!!

Bajahowodd - 2-2-2010 at 12:26 PM

I lived 2 miles from the epicenter of the Sylmar quake in 1972, and 5 miles from the epicenter of the Northridge quake. Sure, I rocked and rolled. But actually the scariest quake experience I had was associated with Loma Prieta in 1989. For my job as a manager for an insurance company at the time, I led a catastrophe team up to the Bay Area the next day. We worked in places such as Hollister that were without electricity or potable water, and stayed nearby in Salinas. With the continual aftershocks, it was, I believe, the only time I slept with my shoes on indoors!

wessongroup - 2-2-2010 at 12:58 PM

My brother and law used to live in Sylmar durning the Northridge quake.. his house was severely damaged, but it worked out ok,.. they had an RV and were able to stay in it the whole time their home was repaired.. 6 months.. their house was actually better after the quake.. but, not something they would ever like to do again..

And for a minute when I read your post, It looked like they (the earthquakes) were following you and I looked up to see where you WERE as of today..:lol:

Thanks for sharing, I never had to respond to a catastrophe of that size and can't say I would want too either.. was just talking to the wife who is stateside visiting family and SPENDING money (she calls it shopping).. but, we talked briefly about things needed down here to be better prepared just in case.. we have had two small quakes since we have been in this place, just within the past couple of months.. yeah, I know..we have them all the time.. but, on this last one.. the lag time on reporting was a bit of a concern to me..

I was awake and typing an email... and looked at my computers clock.. it was 06:23 and I noted it to the person I was emailing that we had just had an earthquake...

After I send the email, I went to the USGS site to get a report.. there was none.. no stations were reporting an earthquake.. check news, no report..

Then posted BM "earthquake" the time was 6:32 a.m. that roughly give or take a few minutes about 5-9 minutes.. in an emergency.. that is a way long period of time.. try holding your breath..:lol:

Well, the wife is bring down our emergency gear, she already has taken care of the food issue, we have enough beans and rice to feed the Mexican Army for a couple of weeks.. water, thing these ploy tanks would take care of us ok.. have water purification devices also.. shelter, clothing, medicines, food, cooking utensils, stove, water, weapons and dogs, yeah I know there is Ken's list.. I'm going as fast as I can..

Just thought I would throw that one in.. don't know what fair, it just kinda struck me as ... well, how far can a Tidal wave go in 5-9 minutes.. or take your pick on what ever event you want..
