Neat to see such fish in S Cal, but not so neat to see such ignorance.

WOW....Brings back old memories. There was a Diving/Spearfishing club in Newport years back [maybe still there?] that would hunt for these fish. It was probably their most sought after prey. They got a lot of them.
That was another time.

There are some LONG threads on this on the fishing boards, universally condemning this crowd of fools.

The video in the link was but one of several; the fish suffered more abuse before that video started.

The fisherman AND the guys in the boat (previous video frames) should be charged, IMO.

I agree. A couple idiots did a similar thang up here recently. They hauled to dock a large GW shark then proceeded to drive it around town in the back of their pickup.

They said they caught it "accidentally". Hilarious...not! The F&G eventually charged them.

Every fisherman should know what is off-limits, and catch restrictions especially with something like these events. Same with abs and bugs. There are many offenders NOB.

Just another example of “Man's Inhumanity” to a creature that needed help! What A-Holes!

Edit: To make a word plural!

There will always be the posts - "Nothing wrong here. All the meat was eaten".

The club was the "Newport Submariners" which has been disbanded for probably 25 years.

The WSB was the prime fish they hunted -- NOT the BSB although a number were speared as a secondary fish.

The other club was the "Newport Whalers" who also hunted WSB & on occasion speared a BSB..

Lets presreve the short history of spear fishing correctly..

I'll leave that up to you. It's all I can do to preserve what's left of my own memory.
