Many thanks to Racers and Ranchers!!

Hi all,

Well for those of you following my stranded thread about us being cut-off in the sierra due to the rains, this is a follow up thank you to the help we received!
Late afternoon 9 volunteers arrived at our ranch after a long trip from San Ysidro (some came as far as Huntington beach). They came on short notice after a plea for help as we were running out of supplies. It was only my Wife and I doing the herculean task of re-building our road and we were starting to get a bit exhausted physically.
Special thanks go to Lance Kane and Rudy Iribe who organized the whole thing. They came in 4 trucks carrying a rhino and a quad used to ferry things from an impassable rocky area of our road to our house.
Luck was on our side that night R&R arrived, even though we had 9 extra hands the rocky area would have taken 2 days for us to fix rolling rocks into ruts. BUT a HUGE group of extreme off roaders from the TJ/Mexicali club came through with 60!! Jeeps/trucks/cherokees! They were literally re-building the road from Mikes through to the observatory road! They did with more than 80 people in one hour what would have taken us a lonngg time!
So sunday R&R helped us ford the last washout putting in a salvaged culvert and filling in with the tractor and shovels!
Of course the whole thing turned out to be a classic Baja unexpected adventure of the best kind with lots of great memories.
But it was above and beyond the call of duty what R&R did for us at short notice. I certainly think what they are doing deserves support, I know we are going to become members!

Astrobaja I am so happy people came to help you out in that mess you were in. It makes my heart sing to know there are people out there willing to put themselves in harms way to come to the aid of others who need help. What a heartwarming story. God bless you folks from Racers and Ranchers in the USA and www.Baja4x4.org from Baja California for coming to the aid of Astrobaja and his wife. What great kindness you guys and gals demonstrated. There is hope for the world with folks like you!

Edit: To edit my writing and to correct the name of Baja California Club www.Baja4x4.org

PS: I hope I have it right now!

Yes we certainly do have some new friends! Kind of ironic that we had the MOST traffic when our road was in the worst condition
Anyway we all had a nice meal of carne asada (done on a grill in our fireplace yum!) and a chile con carne I made.
Afterwards I could share some views of the moon and mars through my telescope which they greatly enjoyed.

That off road group does have a website, heres loads of pics from their journey, the ones near dark are taken at our place.

A very cool thing was that every car of the Baja4X4.org had a no tire basura sticker on it, nice to see!

Thats what I love about Baja, is that the totally unexpected happens a LOT!

I was going to join the trip with the Baja4x4.org guys but had to work on Saturday

The trip is organized every year at the end of January by a really nice guy from Mexicali called Carlos Arias. I've been on the caravan twice and is great. Usually they ride through Mikes sky ranch and then take the left side road to SPM through las truchas ranch.

I'm glad everything turned out OK for you.

Hi all,

Sorry did'nt post back sooner my laptop finally gave up the ghost a couple days back!

Lance: thanks for posting the pics, Pamela forgot to put the CF card in our camera doh!
You guys had to move a BUNCH of rocks just to get the rhino and quad in!

I also wanted to thank Larry Sheftel from San Vicente, he generously brought us a couple of propane tanks as well.
Larry runs a bike tour company;
http://bajatrailrides.com/

They have done a LOT of repairs to the observatorio road, so much that heavy trucks can now pass. So thanks to Larry who hooked us up with a father/son construction team in SV we are waiting to get them up here with a D7 and truck.
