BajaNomad

Greetings from a newbie

chippy - 2-5-2010 at 04:14 PM

Hello everyone,
I have been a long time lurker and decided to take the plunge.
I have a great love for this peninsula. It all started back in 1965 with my moms addiction (to Baja that is).
We had a trailer near the Half way house in the 60s, Punta Banda late 60s,and Ensenada early 70s.
After that I was hooked and Ensenada was just a place to stock up for trips down the peninsula.
I am lucky to say that I have spent years (combined trips) surfing and fishing on both sides.
I kept getting crowded out at my favorite spots in Baja so I now reside in Mainland Mexico. I have been happy down here for over a decade. I am truly blessed.
Okay I donŽt want to bore you. I hope I have something to contribute. Thanks for having me

Donjulio - 2-5-2010 at 04:16 PM

Chippy welcome aboard. You already contributed something with your first post. Thanks

Osprey - 2-5-2010 at 04:18 PM

You are surely welcome. Although your posts about where you are, about life over there will be cheating a little I think the board will allow you some latitude. For more than a decade I have sat on my patio staring across 120 miles of water wondering what life might have been like for me in that place that is so close, yet so far --- and so very differente I can only suppose.

David K - 2-5-2010 at 04:19 PM

Welcome!

You and I have been going to Baja the same (since 1965)... Hope you tell us more about those early trips and what you like about Baja or where you keep going to.

chippy - 2-5-2010 at 04:21 PM

Thanks to both of you. IŽll try to keep my post relevant to Baja.

chippy - 2-5-2010 at 04:23 PM

Thanks David IŽll try.

ELINVESTIG8R - 2-5-2010 at 04:27 PM

Thanks elinvestig8r.

Welcome!

fixtrauma - 2-5-2010 at 04:38 PM

Glad to have you part of this site. Always interested in postings from those who have experienced the Baja years ago! Waiting to hear from you Chippy.

Bajahowodd - 2-5-2010 at 04:38 PM

Welcome chippy. Just wondering, and obviously, if you don't wish to share, that's ok, but I would think it to be of interest to the nomads as to where in mainland Mexico you are, and how it is, given your past infatuation with Baja, that you ended up there.

chippy - 2-5-2010 at 04:45 PM

Thanks fixtrauma and Bajahowodd. I am here at 19 north and 104.5 west. Southern Jalisco to be less coy. I ended up here after (as stated) losing my favorite places to crowds. I tried a few different countries but Mexico always kept a hold on me. So here I am.

shari - 2-5-2010 at 04:49 PM

hola chippy y bienvenido to the sandbox! It is REALLY nice when newbies introduce themselves like you did. We look forward to reading your posts. It will be interesting to hear some prespective from mainland mexico...are you in a small village or city?

chippy - 2-5-2010 at 04:53 PM

Thanks Shari. IŽm in a small village but not as small as yours. I spent a lot of time near you back in the 70s. It was tough to get to but my memories of Abreojos still get me smiling.

Bajahowodd - 2-5-2010 at 05:08 PM

Gotta be close to Barra de Navidad.

chippy - 2-5-2010 at 05:13 PM

Doing well k-rico. Yes I pass thru Chamela from time to time. YouŽre warm Bajahowodd.

woody with a view - 2-5-2010 at 05:16 PM

Tecuan?

chippy - 2-5-2010 at 05:22 PM

Naw Woody there is nothing left of Tecuan.(except waves)

woody with a view - 2-5-2010 at 05:28 PM

that's funny! i was there in '86 and there was nothing there. (except waves!)

Bajahowodd - 2-5-2010 at 05:32 PM

Specific location notwithstanding, that stretch of the coast has numerous fabulous surf breaks. Salud!

chippy - 2-5-2010 at 05:33 PM

You are the winner Don Jorge. Well as you obviously know the northern plague is a month shy of over (thank god). Things will be back to its normal (9 mos. a year) soon. Everything is a give and take.

Udo - 2-5-2010 at 05:33 PM

Bienvenido, Chippy. 12 more posts and you can post an avatar.

Hope you can post some photos of the place or places on the mainland where you are now...who knows...you may have some converts here.

Not so simple, Chipperoo, if you plan to hang for a while. The "Hi-Jack" is a common means of communication here.
Welcome to BajaNomad, by the way. Hope to see more of you.

wessongroup - 2-5-2010 at 06:08 PM

shari - 2-6-2010 at 07:49 AM

I think you'll have to have 25 posts before you can add an avatar. That's what I think, anyway.

Mulegena - 2-6-2010 at 09:12 AM

Just to clarify. When I said northern plague I was not country specific. Down here los codos come from all over.

David K - 2-6-2010 at 05:16 PM

'Codo'= 'Cheapskape' (actually 'elbow')

Our long lost amigo David Eidell was known as 'El Codo' (on other Mexican forums) as he prided himself on getting as much as he could without paying (much).
