Good Bye to a Baja Dog

Gypsy Jan - 2-5-2010 at 05:19 PM

Oscar, the female Rottweiler, had a good day yesterday. She ate her breakfast, and when we left to go to the market, she came out of the house to wait at the gate for us.

On our return, I was happy to see her outside in the warm sunshine, standing around with the other dogs.

When I was leading her upstairs to dinner, at the halfway point, she stopped and laid down and went to sleep. I covered her with a blanket and sat with her. Eventually, she passed peacefully on to the long sleep.

Cesar Millan, the “Dog Whisperer”, refers to the Rottweiler breed as gladiators; that when they are properly trained and socialized, they are the supreme protectors of the home and family.

Oscar completely lived up to that job description with all her heart and soul.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your Oscar. A gentle gladiator to be sure...

So very very sad. It is so difficult to lose such a loyal friend.

She was lucky to have been your dog---a very well loved dog who was so lovingly help to cross over to the rainbow bridge.

My thoughts are with you.

I am sorry for loss. I hope your Rott lived to be an old dog.

Bajahowodd - 2-5-2010 at 05:29 PM

What some refer to as a noble beast. How sad, yet how fitting and peaceful. I'm sure you will grieve for her. Condolences.

Gypsy Jan I am sorry for your loss. Your story touched me! RIP Oscar!

Marie-Rose - 2-5-2010 at 05:39 PM

So sorry for your loss. What a gift though, for both of you, to have her be able to leave this world so peacefully. Our old blue heeler died in my arms last Feb and I was so grateful! May your memories, and the company of your other dogs keep you smiling.

I'm sorry for your loss, Jan. When grieving ends, good memories will prevail.

So sorry to hear that. We lost our female Rottweiler a year ago, they are the greatest companions.

BajaWarrior - 2-5-2010 at 06:18 PM

I am very sorry to hear of your loss, we have two Rottys, and they go everywhere with us. True companions...

So sorry for your loss, This always helps me to know they will be waiting for me.
The Rainbow Bridge Story

Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.

There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food and water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and time gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: they miss someone very special to them; who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. The bright eyes are intent; the eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to break from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. YOU have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

THEN YOU CROSS RAINBOW BRIDGE TOGETHER....

I'm sorry to hear, Jan.

But it is so good that she passed away naturally, at home, and with her best friend holding her.

grace59 - 2-5-2010 at 07:38 PM

I am so sorry Jan, but I agree with Paula. It was good that Oscar was there and died peacefully in her sleep. As the "mom" of a 14 1/2 year old Lab, I wish the same peaceful passing for my girl Coco. I know that you are greiving and wish you well.

BajaNuts - 2-5-2010 at 08:22 PM

She was blessed for knowing you and I know you feel blessed for her being with you.

It's never easy loosing a beloved pet. We know how you feel and share it with you.

noproblemo2 - 2-5-2010 at 08:53 PM

Jan, I am so sorry for your loss. Losing one of our fur babies is for many of us like losing a member of our family.

zforbes - 2-6-2010 at 09:56 AM

My heart goes out to you, Jan, on the death of your beloved Oscar. It always hurts to say goodbye to a loved one, be it human or canine. I know Oscar will sit lovingly in your heart and that she carries with her memories of your times together.

So sorry for your loss. I know Oscar was much loved and will be missed.
Here is a link to a video that will warm an animal lovers heart. (If it doesn't you need a heart transplant!)

It means a lot to our family. The screen is a bit fuzzy, there is water in my eyes - must be the Baja rain.

Sincerely, GJ

So very sorry for your loss. My screen's a bit fuzzy too.
Sounds like she passed in a most peaceful way, with her best friend by her side giving her comfort.
She's OK now. My thoughts are with you.
Remember her and smile... it's what she'd want.
