Stingray season in Concepcion

LYM - 2-6-2010 at 10:13 AM

I spent a few weeks at Concepcion Bay a few winters ago and there were a few stingrays around. I just read an article about there being alot of them in LA Bay in March April. I'm wondering if it is the same for Concepcion in March/April.

do the shuffle while wearing surfing booties. I've had two too many encounters with these things. OUCH!! Now I always wear my old booties. This guy was swimming a foot off shore of my campsite at Santispac. Just happened to have my camera handy.

Since they seem bound and determined to net the bay into extinction, the sting rays are one of the things that do not seem to be effected by the nets and therefore are thriving. They had more predators when they were small but now are very prolific. A good indication that things are pretty much out of whack.
If you get stung, you want to put the affected part in water that is as hot as you can stand and leave it there as long as you can. Painkiller is a big help.
