One of the most wanted criminals in Baja’s capital city, Mexicali, was captured Friday in Los Angeles.
The Baja California State General Attorney office (PGJE) reported that Saul Camacho Cota is alleged to be responsible for at least two kidnappings of
businessmen from Mexicali Valley and was a commander of a drug trafficking organization in 2004.
The arrest happened as a result of collaboration and information exchange between U.S. authorities and Mexico’s General Attorney office (PGR).
By a request of the PGJE International Liaison area, Immigration and Customs Enforcement and U.S. Marshals accomplished the capture.
Baja California Attorney General Rommel Moreno said that Camacho Cota will face a deportation trial in the United States over the next few days, and
after that he will be deported to Baja California to be presented to the Mexican authorities.
Camacho Cota was one of the most wanted kidnappers by the PGJE and his image was published in several billboards over Baja in August 2008.
