More Rain?

Pappy Jon - 2-9-2010 at 07:46 AM

The upside? I live for the desert in bloom.

The downside? I had to postpone my Baja vacation from my usual first two weeks of March to the first two weeks of April. I'm probably going to miss the ephemeral display this year. This was not the year for this to happen. I'm bummed.

Looking at the satellite, from Catavina to Cabo is gonna get whacked!

http://www.wunderground.com/wundermap/?sat=1

Not sure how that link will show up on your 'puters, you may have to zoom out then zoom back in for Baja.

David K - 2-9-2010 at 08:19 AM

Wow... that is a monster, and a whole different storm then what we have in Alta California this week.

Not good for Mision Santa Maria!

BillP - 2-9-2010 at 08:27 AM

Looks like there could be some serious embedded thunder storms. Travel is ill advised for the next 24 hrs IMO

David K - 2-9-2010 at 08:29 AM

Guys, will that mass be over Cataviņa this week? That will indeed postpone the MSM Nomad trip...

It should be over with by tomorrow morning. I'm guessing Catavina as the approx northern edge

David K - 2-9-2010 at 08:42 AM

Thank you Bill... the issue is more water in an area that has already received over 5" this winter... darn! (well good for the desert, of course!)

David K - 2-9-2010 at 08:49 AM

Well, Elena LaLoca talks to Ralph at Santa Ynez on the HAM... so we will see. But your opinion rates pretty high with me Don Jorge. You have WALKLED the El Camino Real from Gonzaga to Santa Maria and back down the canyon, afterall! (sure would like to see your web page of that trip back online)... A beautiful experience!

DENNIS - 2-9-2010 at 08:54 AM

Looks like we're all gonna get it:

We are supposed to get hit on thursday. This has been the rainiest dry season in any of the locals memory. The good is its staying very green this year the bad is my roof is leaking. Time for more impermeabilisante.

BillP - 2-9-2010 at 09:03 AM

I'll bet the Sandy Eggo long range fleet is getting the snot kicked out of it on the lower banks!

BAJA.DESERT.RAT - 2-9-2010 at 07:01 PM

Hola noleakman, remembering the problems baja norte had very recently with the bridges getting wiped out and the arroyos flowing, i would recommend you put your trip off for at least a week after the storms.

if there are the same problems, mexico will get their transportation routes in order very quickly as mex 1 is the lifeline to all of baja.

also, i believe it's prime whale watching time and i'm sure baja doesn't want to lose the tourist dollars, errr pesos, that it generates.

i don't know what the weather will bring but guerrero negro is usually fairly well booked this time of year so you should call or email ahead for reservations.

by the way, if you need a hotel in loreto, i recommend the hotel angra, a newer small boutique hotel. if you need info, u2u me and i'll be happy to send it to you.

BIEN SALUD, DA RAT

It just started coming down here, 7:05. Wind is lite out of the south, 5-8 mph.

Looks like you will get a good size WNW swell. where are you headed? have fun

wilderone - 2-10-2010 at 08:48 AM

I dunno - looks to me like the most serious stuff is way south of Catavina - starting just below GN. Central Baja norte is clear. The accuweather map does show some precipittion (maybe snow) in the Sierra Juarez/Sierra Martir area right now. I may go see whales next week.

shari - 2-10-2010 at 09:43 AM

just back from an epic trip to Ojo de Liebre...yesterday was PERFECT!! in every way. We just had a squall here of rain this morning (wednesday)and there are rain cells all over the place but also breaks in the clouds and sunny bits. I just looked at the 7 day forcast and says gorgeous clear weather for the next week...hmmmm???? that would be nice. There is already a fuzzy carpet of green everywhere here now...cant wait to smell the flowers!
those maps look pretty knarly though??

Mexitron - 2-10-2010 at 11:16 AM

That same storm is supposed to head east and give us snow tomorrow! Man, Texas winters leave you begging for summer, and the summers leave you begging for winter....

Timo1 - 2-10-2010 at 01:46 PM

hehehehe....come up here Dennis..It'll thicken your skin a bit

Bajame - 2-10-2010 at 02:18 PM

Left San Ignacio a few days ago because the nights were so cold and thought it would be warmer in La Paz. Well the rain is warmer here. :?: Carnival starts in a few days and we sure hope the weather clears up!

BajaGringo - 2-10-2010 at 06:54 PM

It rained all night and this morning the outside temp was 54 degrees. Made a run into town and the temp there was 46 degrees. It amazes me sometimes how much colder San Quintin is compared to out here on the beach.

We haven't even fired up our wood burning stove...

Now it looks like the entire jet stream is moving further South. It looks like the Southern tip of Baja and the mainland will get the brunt of it. Bob H
