Captain Phil Harris RIP

BillP - 2-9-2010 at 10:44 PM

Thank you for many hours of entertainment

He was a crusty sailor, I loved his off color humor and way of telling it like it was. He will be missed and remembered every time I drink from my Captain Harris coffee mug. RIP Capt. Phil and may God be with your family and guide them through the trying times ahead. Connie

Sorry to hear.. liked the show.. and him "working" the boat with the crew.. was real..

grace59 - 2-10-2010 at 07:42 AM

I love that show. Sad to hear. I remember a couple of years ago when he had a medical scare while the show was filming and how upsetting that was. So young, too. Rest in Peace, Capt.

Great show... makes you understand why king crab legs cost as much as they do!

Thanks Capt. Phil for allowing us to see your world as you lived it with gusto!

monoloco - 2-10-2010 at 09:43 AM

Capt. Phil should be the new anti-smoking poster boy.

LancairDriver - 2-10-2010 at 03:10 PM

Deadliest Catch is a great reality show and Phil was a big part of it. Cigarettes, Red Bull, and coffee along with no rest and plowing through ice and 30 ft. waves is really burning the candle on both ends. Tough way to make a living pulling crabs out on the Bering Sea. Makes the Sea of Cortez look calm as a millpond in it's worst storm.

what killed him??

They made him watch one too many of his boring, redundant crab fishing episodes. If you saw twenty minutes of it, you saw it all.

Udo - 2-10-2010 at 08:48 PM

A massive heart attack, brought on by the crab from hell coming after him!

He had a stroke while on his boat off St. Paul island up in the Bering sea north of Kodiak. He was probably reading one of Dennis's posts on Nomads at the time.

SOOOO glad we can go over this on the General Baja board whilst an issue like the Cheyenne Indians gets banished to the Gulag.

He fished in Baja on his days off.

I'm sure that there is a huge family of fishermen that are missing their friend badly. It doesn't seem right to poke fun at someone's passing. I feel very sorry for the loss that fishing community is feeling right now and probably will for a very long time.

Who's poking fun at Phil Harris? I'm poking fun at the moderator.

My wife has fished Baja..........shall we talk about the mole behind her ear on the General Discussion Board?

capt. mike - 2-11-2010 at 06:10 AM

yeah - where is this about mexico??

ELINVESTIG8R - 2-11-2010 at 06:17 AM

I remember watching an episode where he was coughing up blood and still smoked like there was no tomorrow! I liked him! Rest in Peace!

BooJumMan - 2-11-2010 at 08:44 AM

Sure does suck. He was one who liked his cigarettes thats for sure. Most likely playing a large role in his death. :(

Capt. Phil Harris

I met him once in Ballard, Wash. where his boat was kept. He was a guest on another crabbing boat that was giving tours. He was pleasant and enjoyable. He rode in on his awesome Harley. The graffics were unbelievable on his tank......Pirates and fishing scenes. I loved his show.

As far as I'm concerned, given that there are indigenous people throughout the Americas, including Mexico, and many live in Baja, that thread had more of a connection to Baja than does this one. however, while not being a mind reader, I suspect that a primary reason for that thread being banished to the dark side was that a bunch of bickering developed by several posters regarding the injection of politics and political viewpoints that were mostly irrelevant to the original topic. I admit that I participated, to a certain extent. But, my contributions were more of an admonition of the first offender.
