THE BEACHES OF CONCEPTION BAY - TODAY

Pompano - 2-13-2010 at 06:14 AM

Friday, Feb 12, 2010.

So I was driving back from Loreto yesterday (Feb 11) and had the opportunity to see Armenta, Perla, Requeson, Coyote, Cocos, Santispac, and a few other old beach haunts.

Here's a current photo tour for you campers:

(As typical of February weather, it was very windy.)

Playa Armenta Thursday Feb. 11, 2010

======================================================================================

(This part of my beach report falls in with a current thread about Playa Perla)

Playa Perla Thursday Feb. 11, 2010

LOVED this sign. Some Happy Farts! And I'm happy that there was NO smell!

beach concession

Looking back at Playa Perla.

======================================================================================

Trail from Perla to Playa Requeson Thursday, Feb 11, 2010

All these trails were in GREAT shape..
...for off-road Baja . :rolleyes:

Playa Requeson ahead...and a chance for a fixer-upper beachfront condo?

Playa Requeson

Lots of room on the other side..??.:rolleyes:

Diver, your firerocks are waiting for you, amigo.

.

A few long-term setups. Nice place for it!

As you can see, all these beaches, Armenta, Perla, Requeson and the entire southern shore...are not crowded and easily accessible to any size rig. Come find your spot and relax.

======================================================================================

Playa Buenaventura - Mark & Olivia's Open for business as usual.

I have GOT to get back for another great SwissMushroomBurger. Olivia assures me it has no calories.

.

Hotel Buenaventura is next door.....:rolleyes:

======================================================================================

Part of the old Camino Real..the old Baja Road. Used to take us over a week from San Quentin to Coyote...sometimes two if we were lazy...or in need of menudo.

======================================================================================

Playa Coyote

Still lots of room left..and the beach road is okay for any rig.

Plan to kayak in the mornings, before the wind comes up.

Playa Cocos

I didn't notice the US and Canadian flag yet this year?? Come ON, you people..let's get with it. Get those borders UP!

======================================================================================

The following beaches are from our bay ride.

Santa Barbara Cove

======================================================================================

Isla Barga..Dead Dog Cove

Over the last 30-some years Barga Cove has always been a good romantic place for a...'private stop'. The custom was that if it was..by some rare chance.. occupied, you left the couple to thier privacy. Nowadays, that custom has long disappeared, and it has become very popular with the recent newcomers. Ah..the memories.

======================================================================================

Isla Pelicano

You can see my beach casa between the islands.

My favorite Bay beach. We named it Playa Almeja Barbada mucho anos ago. Great clamming here and a wonderful stop for ANY reason.

====================================================================================

Our old volleyball beach, Playa Escondido is always uncrowded with pristine water.

===================================================================================

Playa Santispac - Ana's Cafe (Russ)

Always plenty of pretty sailboats here..like this one.

There are plenty of campers on Santispac, but room for many more. The HUGE plus is: You get to eat and drink at Russ's place..Ana's Beach Cafe..the happening place in the Bay. Saturday night is barbeque night featuring date fed pig...a must.

===================================================================================

Heading around the corner to Playa Arena and Naranjos. Lots of room ..because the old palapa houses at Arena are now long gone. Naranjos is still intact, though.

====================================================================================

THE LAST BEACH IN THE BAY

Would you like a real treat? Get in your boat or drive the peninsula road to the Bay entrance...and find Playa Domingo. You can't find a better place to come ashore after a morning's fishing...or just to beachcomb and have a picnic.

I've got years and years of fishing tales that ended at this beach. :yes:

Buon giorno, tesoro, . Spero che stai leggendo questo a Roma.

That's all for now, folks. I hope you enjoyed my photo trip around the Beaches of Conception Bay, the jewel of Baja. The place kind of grows on you.

Pompano, Thanks for the tour!:D

snowcat5 - 2-13-2010 at 08:06 AM

Pompano- Don't be having no fun with your boat, your camera and your girl! Thanks for the great pix- I've enjoyed these beaches myself for over thirty years- they sure don't change much. You are right- they don't appear too crowded, this Winter. I always almost stop for the night at Coyote when headed further South- last Nov., I had the whole camping beach to myself, the water was 81 degrees, air about the same. Water visibility was 100' plus and there was a small whale shark close to shore but it took-off when I tried to swim with it. I guess it was sick and tired of tourists. I checked out the beachfront homes for hurricane damage- looks like most came through OK- you sure have a great spot, too.

Thanks, Roger. Always a pleasure. :D

k-rico - 2-13-2010 at 09:25 AM

Thanks, one of my favorite places. What's the water temp these days and are the winds typically from the north this time of year?

Hey Bob, I think I see you standing there taking your photo of Pompano and his boat. The lighthouse is behind you in the photo that Roger took.
